Massachusetts was the first state on the East Coast to legalize the adult use and sale of cannabis in 2016. Now Governor Maura Healey has taken a historic step by offering pardons for thousands of past cannabis possession crimes. Not such good news from the Governor in Virginia as Glenn Youngkin vetos the latest legalization legislation that his legislature has passed and the natives are getting restless. It comes as no surprise that Wanda James was named “One of the Most Important Women in the Cannabis Industry”by Cannabis Business Executives, and “One of the 100 Most Influential People in Cannabis” by High Times Magazine. Wanda was the first African American woman to open a cannabis dispensary in Colorado. She is a former Navy LT, who then spent twenty-five years in politics, having served on President Obama’s National Finance Committee and as Jared Polis’ campaign Manager in 2008-2009. Seeing the racial disparities in cannabis convictions first hand moved her and her husband to get involved in efforts to legalize and decriminalize cannabis across America.
