GMO—Flora Farms, Missouri, summer 2023

Spring/Summer, 2023

Price: $65/eighth

Missouri serves up some legitimately strong GMO Cookies—the infamous cross of GSC and Chemdog. What the nugs from Flora Farms lacked in size, they made up for in pungency. The Fresh Karma dispensary in Kansas City let us smell every bag in the shop, and Flora Farms’ GMO stood out for its savory, biting, stinky goodness. Flora Farms’ owners include a Kansas City native, with team members that apply Colorado grow know-how to their 30,000-plant facility. GMO was voted Missouri’s Best Cultivar of the Year and now Best in Show, according to 2023’s Coolest Things Made in the Ozarks.

Expertise is built through tastings, interviews with growers, visits to weed regions, and accumulated knowledge about cannabis horticulture, taste, history, and culture. Leafly News’ senior editor and freelancers have a combined 50 years of experience with cannabis.
We aim to be fair, impartial and independent, with policies including:

  1. Actual tastings—If we didn’t smoke it, we’re not reviewing it. Judgment is strongly influenced by experience, and only using the product can enable rating it. At Leafly Weed Spectator, all official ratings of newly-released strains result from live tastings.
  2. Independence—Leafly weed spectators are paid by Leafly and are independent. We gladly accept review units with no promises of coverage or a good rating. Accepting financial favors can compromise a critic’s judgment and lead to the perception of a conflict of interest. Leafly rating staff cannot accept bribes from the cannabis industry. We pay for our own expenses and arrange our own tastings and itineraries; we set up our official tastings in independent locations.
  3. Ethical behavior—In order to keep readers’ trust, we act ethically. Every Leafly rater must abide by our Code of Ethics: Serve the reader; and stay close to the plant. Spring, 2023

Price: $17/gram

Loud, fun, a very Jack Herer sweetness in not-overly-dense bud that looks more classic. Diesel Train comes off terpinolene-forward, and more Ghost Train Haze than Diesel. Smokes Jack-y and terpinolene-y and strong. Full-plant dried, three-week cure, and hand-trimmed.

Lemon Fire MAC—Cloud Cover, Missouri, summer 2023

90 points out of 100

Spring/Summer, 2023

Price: $65/eighth

Cloud Cover in Missouri excels at this cross of MAC x Lemon Fire, bred by Capulator. Cloud Cover has won Cannabis Cups in Oregon and Michigan—and it shows. The big, chunky, purple and green indoor-grown nugs were the loudest flower in Fresh Karma, KC that day. The lemony pungency carried over to the great-tasting smoke, and superb, strong effect. Tasted like lemon fire, and hit like a Mac truck. A great pre-game for some brisket, Bud Light, and the blues.
