Gold Leaf Weed Strain Review & Information

Gold Leaf Strain

In the current state of cannabis, many breeders go out of their way to brag about genetics, but you’ll find much more mystery in this Gold Leaf strain review.

While this strain has become popular with growers and cannabis consumers, we still don’t know the linage used to create Gold Leaf OG. What we do know is how wonderful this bud can be! Let’s check it out in-depth.

Gold Leaf Strain Genetics

Is Gold Leaf strain an indica or sativa?

The original breeder of Gold leaf chooses to keep its lineage a secret. What we do know is that this hybrid strain leans towards indica with a 60/40 ratio.

While we don’t know much else about how this strain came to be, we know that it deserves a spot next to the best hybrid strains on the market today!

Availability Of Gold Leaf Genetics

Gold Leaf OG is readily available as feminized seeds and can even be purchased in an autoflowering variety. Prospective growers may not know what makes up the genetic background for Gold Leaf, but they can produce it for themselves, no problem!

One thing that affects the quality of your grow is that with the lack of genetic background publicly available, fly-by-night breeders may have random seeds and label them as the rare Gold Leaf strain to raise their prices.

With little information about what strains are used to create Gold Leaf, they can simply use a random hybrid and label it as Gold Leaf.

That’s why you must stick with reputable seed banks and breeders if you want the real Gold Leaf strain to grow for yourself!

Derivative Strains

The confusion runs rampant once we discuss strains that have come from the Gold Leaf lineage. Guava Cake is said to be a derivative strain of Gold Leaf, but Wedding Cake is also thrown in the mix.

Some label it as a backcross of a Gold Leaf phenotype of Wedding Cake.

Whatever the truth behind Guava Cake may be, it’s a 70/30 indica-dominant hybrid that has similar effects as Gold Leaf OG with a more berry-centric essence.

Gold Leaf OG Strain Yield

Gold Leaf does best when it can stretch its branches to the fullest in the outdoors. While it can also do great indoors, the plants can reach heights of 7 feet, or even taller.

That means that indoor growers will have to use topping and training techniques to reduce the verticality of this easy-to-grow cannabis strain.

Growers who optimize their environment throughout the growing season can expect around 1.5-2.3 ounces of bud per square foot of plant. Those growing Gold Leaf outdoors can expect around 28 ounces from each plant.

Flowering Time

Gold Leaf fully matures its bud after 9 weeks of flowering. For outdoor growers, this produces a harvest time in early October.

The popcorn-like buds are elongated and emerald-green. Gold and amber also intertwine within the colas as bright orange hairs stretch to cover the buds.

The thick sheet of trichomes also taken on the gold and amber colors that infiltrate the buds. Interestingly, the tips of the leaves turn golden at the time of maturity, lending the idea for the cannabis strain name.

Gold Leaf Strain THC Percentage

Gold Leaf ganja will range between 16-23% THC. There is a negligible amount of CBD, but it has tested between 1-3%.

This is still higher than the average THC-dominant cannabis strain, lending itself towards medicinal use along with recreational use. It’s a perfect strain for late afternoon and early evenings.

The high hits fast after the first exhale or two. The initial burst features uplifting focus and slowly transitions to total relaxation of the mind and body. Those who smoke a little too much are typically in for couch-lock for quite some time.

Strain Flavor & Aroma

The aroma is more earthy and pungent than the flavor. One can note hints of floral and citrus in the aromatic profile of Gold Leaf. The flavor is more straight-to-the-point with spicy lemon and lime that turns a bit sour on the exhale.

Those with a keen sense of taste will notice the fuel presence on the flavor profile, perhaps alluding to some of the hidden genetics.

Terpene Profile

Myrcene, Limonene, and Caryophyllene dominate this secretive cannabis strain.

Myrcene is the most common terpene in cannabis and helps users relax with a sedating effect. Cherry Pie and OG Kush are great examples of strains rich in Myrcene.

Limonene delivers the citrus essence in cannabis strains and helps combat stress and elevates your mood. White Fire OG and Do-Si-Dos are strains rich in this terpene.

Caryophyllene brings a spicy essence when present and is known to fight inflammation and induce stress relief. Purple Punch and GSC are popular strains that are dominated by this terpene.

If you can’t get your hands on Gold Leaf but want a weed strain with similar effects and terpene ratios, then you’re in luck. Many strains resemble Gold Leaf, including Northern Lights, Blackberry Kush, Chemdawg 4, and Humboldt Kush.

There are over 300,000 jobs in the cannabis industry. CTU trained me for one of them!

Medical Conditions This Pot Strain Can Help

Gold Leaf OG may be liked by recreational users, but medicinal users tend to fall in love with this marijuana strain. Here are some of the many conditions improved with Gold Leaf use:

  • ADHD
  • Chronic Stress
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Inflammation
  • Appetite Loss
  • Fatigue
  • Chronic Pain

Final Words On The Gold Leaf Weed Strain

Gold Leaf OG doesn’t have much information available about its history, but the future for this ganja strain sure looks bright.

Growers can easily purchase feminized seeds online, and can even score autoflowering varieties for those who want to venture beyond typical growing seasons.

Listen up, bong-loaders and blunt-rollers of North America: 2023 in cannabis flower promises to be a banger.

More growers in more legal states will push out even more fierce combos of Sherbert, Zkittlez, and OG Kush that’ll blast your palate and frontal lobes. Variations on Oreoz bring even more Instagrammable weed worldwide. Explore smoking hot crosses of Sunset Sherbert and OZ Kush (Zkittlez x OG Kush) this year to encounter unforgettable tastes and versatile hybrid effects that work day or night. That means finding some world-class Zoap from Deo Farms, and checking out the “RS” line from Wizard Trees—RS#11, and RS#54. The pivotal parent here: Dying Breed Seeds’ strain OZ Kush. So re-visit OGZ and its aliases OGZ and ZOG. Oakland, CA breeder-grower Deo Farms only works in small, perfect batches. That means eighth-ounce bags of authentic Zoap could easily fetch $80-$85 when diverted into the global market for exotics, like the clubs of Bangkok, and Barcelona this year. Commercial US pot farmers will grow metric tons of the RS line and OZK for dispensary shoppers. Enjoy Zoap with a fellow cannasseur in a squeaky clean bubbler, or a ball out with a big cannon of it.

Purple gas

Lemon Cherry Gelato

… weed’s gotta look purple and smell like gas, or blunt smokers won’t puff, puff, pass.

We don’t make the rules: In 2023, weed’s gotta look purple and smell like gas, or blunt smokers won’t puff, puff, pass. That means more of the Runtz variety Lemon Cherry Gelato, and the first crosses of it. The LA brand Backpack Boyz drummed up international business for ‘LCG’ in ’22, and that momentum still builds in the Eastern US and globally. LCG’s got the commercial stats to go to the top. It grows, dries, and stores well. The lemon, cherry, and creamy berry dessert smell and taste consistently deliver what the masses crave. Lemon Cherry Gelato works day or night for relaxing, indica hybrid effects.

Leafly Strain of the Year 2022 Jealousy rides a rocket into the stratosphere in 2023, even as it deploys new Jealousy hybrids and offspring. Seed Junky Genetics’ cross and selection of Sherb bx1 to breeder Jigga’s authentic Gelato #41 re-set the template for Gelatos in the 2020s. We’re all benefiting from this new level of look, smell, taste, and effect. Reviewers say Jealousy leaves them giggly, talkative, and relaxed—perfect for a night out with friends. Goofiez. Hybrid. (David Downs/Leafly)

The hype cycle has just begun for Goofiez—a new Compound Genetics cross of Jokerz and Apples and Bananas. Leafly already made Jokerz (Runtz x Jet Fuel Gelato) a Leafly Buzz strain to watch in 2022, and a runner-up to Leafly Strain of the Year. Now, Jokerz marries into the power of the Cookies strain Apples and Bananas. Goofiez has big, beautiful nugs with thick, tropical taffy smells and tastes; like a handful of Hi-Chew flavors. The Blue Power genes from the Apples and Bananas keep Goofiez’s THC scores and effect super-high.

Our test jar from California’s Ember Valley had the sweet, strawberry, citrus, and berry of a red and blue slushie, just with way more syrupy body, and a solid hybrid afternoon and evening effect. Carbon Fiber

Cannarado-bred Carbon Fiber. Indica hybrid. (David Downs/Leafly)

Oreoz had a banner year thanks to its icy, dramatic look and cookies-and-cream-like smell and taste. But not every grower could coax the sweet, chocolate cookie smell from Oreoz. A lot of it smelled like cardboard. In 2023, Cannarado’s Carbon Fiber (which also uses a Cookies and Cream parent) smells and hits as good as it looks. The California cloners at Phinest sell trays and trays of Carbon Fiber cuttings, which help build the wave. It’s one of the best gassy, dank GSC-type strains this year, and it also goes great with a couch and the end of the day, leaving reviewers talkative, aroused, and soaring.

The Y line

Gary Payton (The Y x Snowman) has won over America with its all-star cookie family smell and powerful indica hybrid effects that wrap around you like a glove. The multi-state brand Cookies will pump out tons of Gary Payton coast to coast this year, and it’s a staple strain in the making. While that happens, the Gary Payton family expands with several hit crosses like Blackberry Gary. Simultaneously—we’re trying everything else coming off the family line of The Y; like Cereal A La Mode. Smoke some Gary Payton and kick back with a playoff game, and plenty of snacks to get giggly, chatty, and chill. High-tolerance types can burn one and shoot mad hoops like the San Francisco breeder Kenny Dumetz, founder of Powerzzzup Genetics.

Minty strains

Pink Certz

Pink Certz. Sativa hybrid. (David Downs/Leafly)
Pink Certz. Grown by Sense Cannabis SF. Sativa hybrid. (David Downs/Leafly)

Pink Certz (Grape Gas crossed to The Menthol) comes to hundreds and hundreds of more stores in 2023. The Certz brand team in New York pushes out the Pink Certz back East in ’23, after the strain dominated California cannabis competitions in 2022. Compound Genetics’ core creator Chris Lynch has moved on to new project Cipher Genetics, but his Compound creations, including Pink Certz, should keep building for years. The Menthol line of ‘mint’ flavored cannabis family provides a sweet, herby, cool mint smell and flavor without actual menthol. The smell comes from cannabis’ aroma molecules, called terpenes, some of which we understand, but many we don’t. Pink Certz left our reviewers focused and energetic yet relaxed—great for blasting through busy work. See also: Khalifa Mints, and Gush Mints.

Gas on gas

OG #18

We have to include an OG Kush on every annual forecast. America loves its ‘gas’-smelling strains, and the lemon-pine-fuel of OG Kush never goes out of style. It’s been around for about a decade, but we’re seeing a variant of OG Kush called OG#18 add stores and sales every month for at least a year now. Someone likely hit the jackpot on OG Kush genes and started a new OG wave that’s giving people what they crave in the strain. OG’s don’t grow super-great, but their terpenes survive the abuse of drying and storage to deliver accurate, citrusy, piney gasoline to the smoker. Cypress Hill’s B-Real said he smokes the hybrid indica for breakfast. The rest of us mortals pair an OG with happy hour, appetizers, dessert, or the bedroom. See also: Legend OG.

Cap Junky

(David Downs/Leafly)
Capulator plus Seed Junky is Cap Junky. Grown by LA Made. Hybrid. (David Downs/Leafly)

Who wants gas? I mean, like, ‘Tear into your nostrils and abuse them a bit?’ MAC1 creator Capulator, and Jealousy creator Seed Junky Genetics unite their most influential strains for Cap Junky—Alien Cookies x Animal Mints. The seeds sold out quickly, and now we’re seeing it grown by LA Made in LA, and along the West Coast. Few strains can match the sleet of trichomes, pungence, and heart-pounding effects of this high-THC, high-terpene varietal. Buckle up and enjoy Cap Junky with a couch and a wall to stare at—you’re going on an inward journey. One-quarter of early reviewers used it to manage their bipolar disorder. See also: Animal Face.

Tangie for ‘23

Super Boof

Super Boof. Grown by Triple 7. Sativa hybrid. (David Downs/Leafly)

Citrusy, friendly Tangie and family have lots of fans as well as critics who want stronger effects from it. In 2023, look out for Super Boof, a Tangie, GSC, Black Cherry Punch project indebted to the so-called Mountain Trop (“Mtn. Trop”) selection of Tropicanna Cookies. It’s Tangie but with added cream and funk, and indica hybrid body effects from the GSC line. Super Boof’s also massive and pretty like Black Cherry Punch, with an ironic name that’s fun to say. The California breeder Blockhead went from virtual anonymity to having his work in hundreds of stores coast to coast. Tangies remain versatile—you can work on them, do yoga, hike, handle chores, whatever. Blast some Tame Impala and a bowl of Super Boof—you’ll feel like a brand new person. First Class Funk

The savory, stanky, strong, and wrong GMO Cookies line has become an American mainstay. We wanted to shout out a rising star in the GMO constellation—First Class Funk. The Funk debuted several years back. Grower and smoker-tested and approved—it’s earned its spot on over 1,500 store menus nationwide. Compound Genetics added the bling, gas, and grower-friendliness of Jet Fuel Gelato to GMO—resulting in a Cup-winner and crowd-pleaser. First Class Funk reviews score high for soaring euphoria and party vibes. See also: GMO Rootbeer, and Gaschata.

Fresh in sativas

Pineapple Fruz

Seed Junky Pineapple Fruz (David Downs/Leafly)
Seed Junky Genetics-bred and grown Pineapple Fruz. Sativa hybrid. (David Downs/Leafly)

The top of the sales charts for sativa lovers plays like classic rock radio: lots of decades-old gold like Super Lemon Haze, and Pineapple Express. Few new sativas break through to the main stage to play alongside the Gelatos and Zs hogging the limelight. One sativa that holds up to modern standards for size, bling, terps, and power—Pineapple Fruz from Seed Junky Genetics in LA. They grow it flawlessly in Northridge, CA at their “Farmacopeia” facility and they keep winning trophies with their closely held cross of Animal Mints bx1 x Zbx1. Seed Junky flowers sell in Michigan and beyond this year, so hopefully they’ll set the Fruz loose. Pineapple Fruz hits a little strong for breakfast, but a puff before the gym fights boredom—and it’s great at parties.

Bonus strain: New in Glue

White Truffle

White Truffle grown by 'Snowtill' in the Bay Area. (David Downs/Leafly)
Fresh Coast Genetics’ White Truffle, grown by ‘Snowtill’ in the Bay Area. Indica hybrid. (David Downs/Leafly)

Original Glue, aka GG4, has a legion of fans nationwide clamoring for more from that line. However, the breeder Lone Watty died in 2020. The most active Glue offspring? The so-called White Truffle cut of Gorilla Butter (GG4 x Peanut butter Breath) from Michigan’s Fresh Coast Seed Co, and it’s spreading nationally into 2023. Can weed smell like an earthy, nutty, sweet, dank white truffle? You bet your snout it can. A whole Truffle line has sprouted up with Black Truffle and conflicts over the Truffle name. Reviewers got tingly, aroused, and relaxed on White Truffle—great for your favorite hobbies. Check it out for yourself and leave us a review on how White Truffle hits in your town.

And that’s a baker’s dozen banger strains (plus a bonus) set to sell out, take Cannabis Cups, and earn millions of fans for 2023. Many more flavors deserve equal space, but we gotta hold our fire for next time. Make sure to sign up for Leafly Newsletters and never miss our shining insights. Afghani Weed Strain Review & Information

afghani strain of mairjuana

Afghani Strain

Landraces, like the indica discussed in this Afghani strain review, are the backbone of the whole cannabis industry. All cannabis strains can be traced back to landraces and Afghani, also known as Afghan, is one of the reputable landraces known to man.

Let’s see what this landrace cannabis strain has to offer itself and what it has contributed to the world of marijuana!

Afghani Strain Genetics

Afghani is a naturally occurring landrace of cannabis that grows in the Hindu Kush mountain range in the Middle East. This geographic region is credited for some of the earliest cultivated cannabis plants known to man.

Afghan is as pure of an indica as it gets. The indica dominance is somewhere around 95-100% indica with very little sativa influence at all. This is rare among modern cannabis strains that are hybrids resulting from generations of cross-breeding landraces and other hybrids.

This landrace strain is also known as Afghan Kush and has spawned hundreds of child strains. Some of the most popular derivatives of Afghani include:

This is nowhere near the number of strains that Afghani has helped bring into the modern cannabis industry. If you also count the child-strains of those strains initially spawned from Afghani, you are counting thousands of weed strains that have the Afghan Kush influence running through their DNA.

Prospective growers will be happy to know that Afghan is available in the form of feminized seeds from multiple online seed banks. That means you can grow your crop of this classic landrace for yourself and experience the makings of a huge percentage of the new-age cannabis scene.

New strains are awesome but without an appreciation for these classic landrace strains, your knowledge isn’t complete!

Afghan Strain Yield

While native to the Hindu Kush mountain range in the Middle East, this strain does well in indoor and outdoor growing operations under a range of conditions. It prefers warm and sunny environments, but it will thrive elsewhere with its strong genetics after hundreds or thousands of years of selective breeding on its own.

After all this natural selection, this cannabis strain is easy to grow and is resistant to most common diseases and pests. This makes Afghani an awesome candidate for beginner growers!

This pure indica will produce around 1.5 ounces of bud per square foot of plant when grown indoors. Outdoor growers can expect around 21 ounces of bud on each plant if it is allowed to grow to its full potential.

Flowering Time

Afghan Kush takes around 7-8 weeks to fully mature in the flowering stage. This means outdoor growers should be harvesting in late-September or early-October, depending on the growing conditions, climate, and daily light exposure.

This cannabis strain is known for its heavy production of resin. This trait is so-sought after that many child-strains were bred to include the resin production that Afghani produces.

Get our top rated STRAIN GUIDE!

Afghani buds are pale green with deep orange hairs covering the colas. The trichomes appear as a thick glistening carpet that gives the optical illusion of teal-colored cannabis.

Afghani Strain THC Percentage

This cannabis strain clocks in around 16-20% THC. While this isn’t particularly potent when compared to the dankenstein hybrid cannabis strains of today’s industry, the potency for a landrace is quite impressive.

Being a pure indica, it’s easy to predict that the experience delivers full-body physical relaxation that indicas have garnered a reputation for. The body-high can be quite sedating as your mind drifts off into blissful euphoria.

This is not a wake-and-bake strain unless you plan to go right back to sleep on a lazy weekend morning. Reserve Afghani for evening use and enjoy any accumulated stress melting away as you drift out to restful sleep for the night!

Afghan Strain Flavor & Aroma

Unlike the designer strains that flood the market nowadays, Afghan boasts an aroma and flavor that is deeply rooted in the essences of sweet earth and herbal spice. The flavor is known to be quite rough when compared to hybrid strains that are popular today.

Regardless of the harshness of this natural landrace, the effects are so enjoyable that a coughing-fit after heavy consumption might just be worth it!

Afghani is rich in Myrcene, Limonene, and Pinene.

Myrcene is a relaxing terpene that acts as an anti-oxidant and may help treat insomnia, pain, and inflammation. It dominates strains like Blue Dream and GDP.

Limonene may be useful to treat anxiety, stress, inflammation, pain, and cancer and the side effects of treatments. It dominates strains like Strawberry Banana and Do-Si-Dos.

Pinene is the most abundant terpene of the natural world and is believed to treat pain, inflammation, anxiety, and cancer and its treatment side effects. It dominates strains like Big Smooth and Critical Mass.

Medical Conditions This Pot Strain Can Help

The indica effects of Afghani make it a clear choice for medicinal use for many conditions. Here are a few that can be improved when consuming Afghani:

Jager Weed Strain Review & Information

Jäger strain of cannabis

Jager Strain

In this Jager strain review, we’ll take a look at a wonderful indica-dominant marijauan strain that features the unique essence of black licorice. This strain has many names, including Jager, Jagermeister, Jager Kush, JR, JGR, and Jager OG and has taken the Pacific Northwest by storm.

If you aren’t from the area, this pot strain may be unfamiliar to you. However, it’s worth a smoke session or two when it does eventually hit the shelves of your local dispensary!

Jager Strain Genetics

Is Jager strain an indica or sativa?

Jager Kush is an 80-20 indica-dominant hybrid cannabis strain that came to fruition after crossing Blue Dream and LA Confidential.

Blue Dream is quite possibly the most popular cannabis strain across the nation. It’s known for a fantastic essence and a blissful combination of physical relaxation and cerebral energy. It has spawned many child-strains, including Dream Queen and Cookies N Dream.

LA Confidential is a great cannabis strain for newcomers to marijuana and those who don’t want to be blown away by an immensely potent experience. The experience hits quickly and is quite calming.

LA Confidential has parented a few child-strains of its own, including Recon and LAPD, or LA Purple Deisel.

With immensely popular west coast cannabis strains as parents, it’s no surprise that Jagermeister has a stronghold in the Pacific Northwest region of the country. It hasn’t spread much beyond the west coast, but with the raving reviews, it’s only a matter of time.

Growers who are looking to acquire seed stock will be happy to know that feminized seeds of Jager Kush are available through online seed banks.

It’s a bit rarer than many other strains, so getting seeds as soon as you can is a good idea if you are sure you want to produce this strain for yourself. Otherwise, you never know when the next time Jager Kush feminized seeds will be in stock!

Jager Kush Strain Yield

Jager can be grown indoors and outdoors. It grows like a typical indica variety with short and stocky branches. Topping and pruning will do your crop well to improve air flow, light exposure, and encourage better overall bud development throughout the plant.

While the plant may be a short variety, it does produce well. Growers can expect around 2.3 ounces of bud per square foot of plant when grown under optimal conditions.

Many indoor growers end up with smaller harvest than their outdoor counterpart, but that doesn’t mean the bud isn’t just as good, if not better!

Jager Strain Flowering Time

The flowering period for Jager Kush is somewhere between 8-10 weeks, depending on the phenotype and growing environment. In the earlier phase of this flowering range, the trichomes will be almost all milky-white with little-to-no amber.

The latter stages will bring out more amber trichomes. Remember, milky-white means the highest possible THC but amber means more of a body experience. The usual approach is to harvest when there is an even amount of each for a balanced high and mature terpene profile.

Get our top rated STRAIN GUIDE!

JGR buds are known to be long and rich in forest green and purple hues. The purple color is brought out when low temperatures happen during the early stages of flowering, but it doesn’t have an effect on the potency or experience of the bud. It is merely an aesthetic bonus.

These dense indica colas are rich in rusty orange hairs and a sticky layer of white and amber trichomes that contain the majority of the cannabinoid and terpene content of the flower.

Jager Strain THC Percentage

Jager is typically tested between 19-23% THC, making it a perfect strain for intermediate cannabis consumers that don’t get high from the lightweight strains but aren’t ready for the dankensteins that put even the heaviest of cannabis consumers to bed.

It’s a relaxing experience that is perfect for nighttime use. The high is known to creep up on you, which makes newcomers tend to overconsume it, thinking that they need more for the supposed effects.

The physical relaxation melts through your entire body while a spacey cerebral state can leave you thinking introspective thoughts for quite some time.

The high isn’t as sedative as other indica-dominant strains, so you shouldn’t hit the hay too soon after smoking.

Flavor & Aroma

The essence of black licorice best describes JGR, which is probably why the original breeder chose to name it after the licorice-flavored alcohol. The aroma is a bit more sweet and earthy while the flavor is a mixture of pine and lemon intertwined with the licorice.

This weed strain is richest in the terpenes Limonene, Caryophyllene, and Pinene.

Limonene dominates strains like White Fire OG and Do-Si-Dos and may be useful when treating anxiety, depression, pain, and chronic inflammation.

Caryophyllene represents more spicy strains like Girl Scout Cookies and Original Glue and is thought to be useful for treating the same conditions as Limonene, making it a great one-two punch.

Pinene is abundant in all plant life and dominates unique strains like Big Smooth and Critical Mass and is used to treat pain, inflammation, anxiety, and many other conditions.

There are over 300,000 jobs in the cannabis industry. CTU trained me for one of them!

Those looking for cannabis strains with similar terpene profiles and effects should look into Slurricane, Gelato Cake, Garanimals, and Jet Fuel Gelato.

Medical Conditions This Pot Strain Can Help

Jager Kush can be a wonderful medicinal marijauna strain. It can help treat:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Chronic Inflammation
  • Pain
  • Ulcers
  • Asthma
  • Stress
  • Insomnia
  • Tremors
  • Muscle Spasms
