On the evening of Aug. 15, 2015, William Sandeson and his girlfriend went out for dinner together.

Sonja Gashus told Sandeson’s first-degree murder trial in Dartmouth that he asked her to go to her friend’s house that night because “he wanted to do a deal that would be the last deal.”

At the time, the two had been dating for about one year. She was aware that he sold marijuana and voiced concern to him, especially because he was starting med school that fall, she testified.

At around midnight, she said she received a text from Sandeson saying that it was OK for her to come back to his Henry Street apartment. She says she showed up within minutes of that text as her friend lived nearby.

The owners of PH Cannabis Co in Summerland, B.C.,  have put their shop up for sale, just two years after opening.

Global News first spoke to Chris and Elaine Nuessler in 2014 when they were advocating for their granddaughter Kyla, who was in need of CBD to control her seizures.

“She was two years old, and that was nine years ago that she failed all pharmaceutical drugs for a very severe case of epilepsy. We were watching her really disintegrate and she was having about 200 seizures a day,” said Elaine at the time.

“That led us to start investigating cannabis through the U.S. because primarily they were already light-years ahead of us.”

A former director of quality and compliance at CannTrust Holdings Inc. says he warned the company’s chief executive that Health Canada could levy penalties if the firm grew pot in unlicensed rooms at its Niagara, Ont. facility.

In the months leading up to Health Canada finding pot growing in unlicensed rooms, Graham Lee said Tuesday that he told Peter Aceto he couldn’t say what the exact consequences could be, but knew the government regulator had previously issued warning letters and handed out penalties.

For example, Lee said Health Canada reviewed CannTrust’s inventory more extensively after it discovered the company using a storage facility at its Vaughan, Ont. location contrary to licensing.

“In general, Health Canada was there every day checking up on the inventory,” Lee recalled.

Though he warned Aceto about consequences, Lee said he didn’t give him advice about whether to disclose alleged unlicensed growing to the public or Health Canada.
