New York State lawmakers have introduced a bill that would allow liquor stores to sell low-THC cannabis drinks, amid growing interest in cannabis drinks.

Democrat Senator Jeremy Cooney and Assemblyman John Zaccaro have recently introduced additional legislation in the Senate and Assembly to allow licensed liquor and wine stores to sell low-potency cannabis beverages.

The bill would allow retail sales of beverages containing 5 milligrams of THC, produced by New York adult-use cannabis licensees, and direct related tax revenue to the state’s cannabis revenue fund.

The measure would open a new way for liquor stores to sell low-dose cannabis drinks, imposing new taxes and determining how the revenue would be used, and would expand New York’s adult-use market.

“Another example of what we need to have a unicameral Legislature.”

By Leslie Bonilla Muniz and Tom Davies, Indiana Capital Chronicle

A Prohibition of synthetic and intoxicating products derived from hemp died Monday because lawmakers in the Indiana House did not call before the second reading period.

Senate Bill 250 would have mirrored a recent federal law designed to close a loophole that allows delta-8, THCA and other cannabinoid products to proliferate.

Sen. Aaron Freeman, R-Indianapolis, openly criticized his colleagues on the floor for killing the bill.

All he would say was, “Another example of why we should have a unicameral Legislature.”

The hemp measure passed the Senate on a 35-13 vote.

Rep. Garrett Bascom, du of the bill The House sponsor said that while he wouldn’t speak for other members, he believed there weren’t enough votes to pass his chamber this year. He didn’t offer specific points, but hoped to try again.

The language could be changed to another bill in conference committee.

The proposal would also establish a regulatory scheme for any low-power product, although industry representatives said customers would not want it.
