For a Hot Summer Day – Have Some of This Frosty Horchata Strain!

Review of Horchata by Avenue Flower Company

In June of 2021, I saw my first advertisement for Avenue Flower in Leaf magazine. The layout of the full-page advertisement pictured a city street with a suspension bridge like the Golden Gate bridge. After doing some research, I found that Avenue Flower is actually yet another branch off from Harvest, which also owns the cannabis brands Roll One and Modern Flower. Having had some less-than-premium product experiences with all of Harvest’s companies, I was hesitant; however, I decided to give them one more chance.

When I saw their Hybrid cultivar, ‘Horchata’ available at Oceanside Dispensary for $60, I decided to give it a chance. The packaging was very much like the advertisement I saw; with the same image of a city street and a suspension bridge in the background; easily recognizable from the advertisement I saw.

This batch of Horchata tested at 22.53% THCa and a whopping 4.29% total terpenes! After seeing this on the label, I got excited to try it; especially after cracking open the jar to see a forest of bright green cola buds with patches of purple goodness mixed in.

Horchata Terpene Profile

The terpene profile is extensive in Horchata; with Myrcene being the most dominant terpene – testing at an insane 1.48%! What makes this a Hybrid strain are the high amounts of Pinene (.85%), and Ocimene (.91%).

These three dominant terpenes really produce an amazing and unique aroma to Horchata, with a taste to match. It smells like a mixture of Christmas morning and lemon-scented floor cleaner. It has a very fresh citrusy-piney taste and its effects are perfect for any time of day; producing both relaxing and euphorically creative effects.

Here’s a complete list of terpenes in Horchata. You can clearly see why this cultivar has such a unique flavor and aroma. The alpha and beta Pinene combined with the heavy amounts of Myrcene and Limonene create a lemon-pine wonderland. Sprinkle in the .21% Linalool and it adds a sweet floral undertone upon exhalation. This is truly one of the most unique Hybrid strains I’ve tried in a long time.

  • Myrcene: 1.48%
  • Ocimene: 0.91%
  • Alpha-Pinene: 0.65%
  • Caryophyllene: 0.43%
  • Linalool: 0.21%
  • Beta-Pinene: 0.20%
  • Limonene: 0.19%
  • Humulene: 0.14%
  • Terpinolene: 0.02%
  • Camphene: 0.02%

Conclusion

Although I was hesitant as previously mentioned, in the end I was beyond happy with this top-shelf, hand-crafted cannabis by Avenue Flower Company! Its quality was right up there with other top brands I’ve reviewed like Rythm and Garcia’s Hand Picked.

I’ll give this beautifully cultivated flower a 9/10 for flavor and a 10/10 for medicinal effect. Very well done Avenue Flower and Harvest!
