Black History Month is a time for everyone to learn and celebrate the Black community in an uplifting way. The month of February is dedicated to remembering the past while also looking towards the future. It’s important to acknowledge the rich history and the promising future of Black individuals across the country. According to the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, this year’s theme celebrates Black health and wellness. The theme supports contributions made to modern medicine by Black individuals, and acknowledges the importance of previous medical setbacks like misdiagnoses and not taking illnesses seriously. It also supports nontraditional practices, like doulas, midwives, herbalists and more.
