Denver could see first snow Sunday night, plus more next week

Denver’s first dusting of snow likely will fall this weekend, with forecasters predicting less than half an inch  will stick around Sunday night.

Saturday is expected to be mild and sunny, bringing a high of 65 and a low of 38 overnight, according to the National Weather Service.

On Sunday, temperatures will drop from 58 degrees during the day to just below freezing overnight. Rain is forecast before midnight, giving way to snow that will continue into Monday morning.

384 flights canceled at DIA as heavy snow pelts metro Denver

At least 384 flights were canceled and 467 delayed at Denver International Airport on Friday as heavy snow pelted metro Denver and Colorado’s eastern plains.

The Federal Aviation Administration activated a traffic management program for flights bound for DIA “due to weather/snow-ice.” The average delay for flights under this plane was one hour and 50 minutes, FAA officials said, adding that departing flight schedules also may be affected by the weather.

There were 851 total delayed and canceled flights at DIA as of 11:45 a.m., according to Flight Aware. SkyWest reported the most cancellations with 183, followed by Southwest with 124, and Frontier with 30.

Colorado road conditions: Heavy snow freezes traffic across Colorado, CDOT barring trailers from I-70 in mountains

A winter storm could stifle travel across Colorado today and Saturday, closing roadways and threatening to make driving difficult or impossible on segments of interstates 25 and 70.

Colorado’s Department of Transportation warned that travel conditions could become “extreme to impossible” Friday and Saturday, expressing particular concern about I-70 east of Denver and I-25 south of Pueblo.

Beginning at 4 p.m. Friday, CDOT will begin restricting vehicles with any type of trailer from traveling west of exit 259 on I-70. The restrictions will be in place until 8 a.m. Saturday.
