DIY Psychedelic Easter Eggs for Tripped-Out Holiday
Published

Sure, everyone makes Easter eggs. Most are simply dyed one color, while a choice few have some interesting designs painted on. This year, as psychedelics gain popularity, let’s knock it up a notch. Let’s totally trip out…with our eggs. Read on for a DIY guide explaining how to make psychedelic Easter eggs of different kinds. It’s easy, I promise. And the results are out-of-this-world!
Easter is already pretty trippy
Even without psychedelic Easter eggs, the holiday is already pretty trippy. If we go to the bible, the story is about a guy getting killed (Jesus), and then rising from the grave. Easter is therefore Resurrection Day, and geared toward the idea of coming back from the dead. I guarantee if you ever see a scene like that in life, you’re going to question what drugs you ingested that day. And that’s the standard story. Jesus was crucified, and three days after burial, he rose from the dead. Pretty trippy.
Of course, throughout history, we managed to make it more trippy, even if that wasn’t the ultimate goal. Between the original story and today, there was the introduction of the egg-laying Easter bunny. Yup, a bunny (you know, hop, hop), which lays eggs (you know, those round things bunnies aren’t known to lay). And this egg-laying rabbit-like creature, is now the symbol of the holiday. Despite the fact that never once has a bunny laid an egg.
How did this weird idea permeate the holiday? There isn’t a direct answer to that part. Some connections get lost in history, and we’re left with just a follow-up story. How it initially happened is sketchy, but its first appearance in America was the result of German immigrants in the 1700’s who brought the tradition to the New World, under the name “Osterhase” or “Oschter Haws.” An egg-laying hare that – like Santa Clause – rewarded children for good behavior, this time with colorful eggs. It was tradition for children to build nests for the bunnies. Sometimes the kids left out carrots too, just in case the bunnies were hungry.

The two stories (Easter and Christmas) show a theme. Not one related to the religious aspects of a holiday, either, but instead to keeping kids in line. For Christmas kids are told they’ll only get presents if they’re good, with Santa keeping a list to ensure this, and threatening a lump of coal for the bad children. On Easter, only the well-behave kids received eggs from the Easter bunny. In both cases, children are (or were) taught to revere this figure and leave out gifts (cookies for Santa, carrots for the Easter bunny). Holiday time is chaotic; these stories serve to promote good behavior.
Egg-painting is a different tradition; and slightly less confusing in terms of attachment to the original story. Eggs represent new life, and therefore, resurrection. Just like the egg is the beginning of life, Jesus rose from death into a new existence. Why we decorate them? Harder to say, but the tradition goes back to the 13th century. The best explanation is that eggs were considered forbidden during lent; and decorated in preparation for eating them on Easter.
How exactly we ended up with these specific traditions isn’t known. However, despite how they came to be, we’re left with some interesting visuals. Resurrection from the dead, egg-laying bunnies, and brightly painted eggs. Maybe it’s not meant to be trippy, but that’s what we’re left with in the end.
DIY guide: psychedelic Easter eggs
This year, make your eggs as trippy as the holiday. With the following simple instructions, you can create your very own, very psychedelic Easter eggs. And you know what? It’s pretty easy to do. Below are very basic instructions, that only involve one egg dying kit that uses vinegar and water. You’ll need the vinegar, water, and some margarine as well. Then follow these directions:
1 – There are instructions with the egg-dying kit. And you’ll follow them most of the way, but not completely. A standard kit usually comes with dissolvable dye tablets.
- Drop the tablet in 3 tablespoons of vinegar (in something like a mug), until its dissolved.
- Then add in ½ cup hot water to each mug. The water must be hot, not cold.
- For each color, then add in 1-2 teaspoons melted margarine.
2 – That’s all the prep work necessary. Now, you dunk the eggs in a color. The margarine in the dye will automatically give you crazy, psychedelic, swirling patterns.
3 – Wipe off any excess oil from the eggs, and you’re left with super cool, psychedelic Easter eggs.
DIY guide: glow-in-the-dark psychedelic Easter eggs
Want to knock it up a notch? Swirling designs are definitely trippy, but what if you could make your Easter eggs glow in the dark? This Easter, you can surprise everyone with glow-in-the-dark psychedelic Easter eggs. You’ve got a few options, follow the instructions below:
1 – Glow sticks and plastic eggs – This method doesn’t use real eggs, but it sure brightens up an egg hunt. And it’s probably the easiest to do. Just buy some glow sticks, and insert them into the plastic eggs of different colors. Voila! You’ve got glowing Easter eggs! Then spread them around for decoration, or hide them for a hunt.
2 – Glow-in-the-dark spray paint – This method works with regular eggs (hard-boiled) or plastic eggs. It requires glow-in-the dark spray paint. Just lay the eggs on newspaper, or an old shirt you don’t mind getting dirty. Spray with the paint. If using plastic, separate the pieces first to ensure they don’t stick together with the paint. And if putting candy in the plastic eggs, best to have the candy wrapped so the paint cannot get on it. Make sure the eggs get a lot of light and really soak it up; then watch them glow in the dark!
3 – Black light eggs – This method is much like above and is possible with both real hard-boiled eggs or plastic eggs. You’ll paint the eggs with the black light paint, just like with the glow-in-the-dark paint. Then you just need to shine a black light in that direction. That last part is wildly important, though. So remember, if you want to do this method, you definitely need the black lights.
4 – Microwave glow eggs – This method doesn’t always work, but is fun to try. It should work about 1/3 of the time. Use raw eggs, and soak them in dye for five minutes. Make sure they’re all covered. Then allow them to dry on a paper towel. Once dry, put the eggs on a microwave safe plate, and into the microwave. Microwave for 10 seconds at medium. Then take them out, lay them out, and turn off the lights. Some will glow. As stated, it doesn’t work all the time. If you don’t get it right the first time, try again with new eggs.
DIY guide: tie-dyed psychedelic Easter eggs
What do we associate with psychedelics? Tie-dye! This year, you can have the most psychedelic Easter eggs by adding in some cool tie-dye patterns. There are a couple different methods that both lead to pretty awesome tie-dye results. Follow the instructions before.
1 – Tie-dyed eggs – This method is like the regular old-school dying method, but with a psychedelic twist – tie-dying. Just wrap rubber bands around the egg in funky patterns before dying. You can also use white crayon to make patterns, as that will repel the paint in the areas where its used. You can use different colors by placing the egg in a shallow bowl of dye so only part is submerged. Then let that part dry, and do another part with another color. When the whole thing is painted and dried, take off the rubber bands for perfectly tie-died psychedelic Easter eggs.
2 – Alternate tie-dye method. There is another way to tie-dye your Easter eggs. You can follow these instructions. You’ll need hard-boiled eggs, food coloring, vinegar, and water. Use a spray bottle to wet the paper towels with equal parts water and vinegar. Wrap the eggs in the sprayed paper towels, with a rubber band to tie off one end, and hold the paper towel in place around the egg.
Then apply food coloring to the paper towel in whatever pattern you desire. You can use multiple colors, and overlap. Don’t expect what you see on the paper towel to be how the egg turns out; it’ll be much more clear. When done with the color, spray the eggs with more of the vinegar and water solution, which makes the colors blend. Make sure not to soak the paper towel, jut make it moist! You can soak up extra moisture with dry paper towels. When done, leave the towel-covered eggs for an hour to dry (or longer for more vivid colors). Then take off the paper towels for beautifully tie-dyed eggs.
Conclusion
There you have it! Whether you’re looking to have a trippy egg hunt, or want some cool decorations at your party; these DIY instructions will ensure your psychedelic eggs, are all the talk of the holiday season. Happy holiday, and enjoy!

DIY Cannabis Infused Champagne Recipes for New Years
Published

It’s time to celebrate the end of the year with good friends and a glass of bubbly. This year, try out a cannabis infused champagne recipe, to really get the party started.
Can you infuse cannabis into alcohol?
For some reason, which is generally not made clear, cannabis industries are nearly 100% non-alcoholic. Any place you can legally use or buy weed, generally won’t sell alcohol, and places that sell alcohol, don’t allow cannabis use. Something could certainly be said for simply not wanting people to get too intoxicated by mixing substances; but for the most part, there isn’t much reasoning attached to this segregation.
I will say it is true that after drinking a lot, a few hits off a joint truly can spell disaster in the form of a spinning room and intense nausea. However, rarely in my own experience has this happened, and for the most part, I rather like mixing the two. As of yet, I’ve never actually tried a product that contained both, but these basic cannabis infused champagne recipes will change that this year.
As it happens, alcohol is one of the best products to infuse with cannabis. In fact, alcohol is used to make cannabis tinctures – alcoholic extractions, because alcohol is so good at leaching out the active compounds of the plant, without destroying them. Every time you take a few drops of a tincture, you’re consuming some high proof alcohol at the same time (unless it’s a glycerin tincture). So it automatically suffices to say that the two can go together, and one does not ruin the other.
Cannabis infused sparkling champagne recipe
This first recipe requires just a few ingredients, and can be made with or without cannabis. For those who want just the champagne recipe, simply leave out the green. The recipe consists of these four ingredients:
- 1 oz. simple syrup (sugar and water solution)
- 1 oz. lemon juice
- 1 oz. cannabis-infused gin
- 4–5 oz. champagne or sparkling wine
- Simply combine the simple syrup, lemon juice, and cannabis infused gin.
- Shake it hard for around 10 seconds, and strain into glass of your choice.
- Top it off with the champagne or sparkling wine. And add a lemon twist garnish if you really want to get fancy. That’s it, you’re done!
Cannabis infused mimosa
Are you a mimosa lover? The standard mimosa is a combination of champagne and citrus juice, generally orange juice. For those who want to toast to the new year holding one of these, you can use the following recipe for a weed-enhanced version. Plus, this recipe gives the basis for making many other infused drinks. All you need are the following ingredients:
- 1/8th of weed (3.5 grams)
- 1 bottle of vodka
- Citrus juice of your choice
- Banana liqueur
- First you’ll decarboxylate your weed. As there are different ways to do this, and everyone has their own preferences, I won’t go further into specific instructions.
- Take the weed, wrap it in cheese cloth (or alternatively panty hose if cheese cloth cannot be found), and place the weed into the bottle of alcohol. Leave the weed to soak for 24 hours.
- This particular recipe calls for juicing four oranges, but you can use store bought juice, and generally any citrus juice is accepted. Pour it halfway up your champagne flutes.
- Add a tablespoon of the cannabis-infused vodka to each glass.
- Fill the glass the rest of the way with champagne.
- Top off with banana liqueur.
- The recipe also calls for rimming the glass with a mix of sugar and banana liqueur. To do so, put sugar in one bowl, the liqueur in the other, and do a standard glass rim job. Add garnish.
Bubbly Blue Dream cocktail
Yet another cannabis infused champagne recipe will have you seeing blue…at least in your glass. For this recipe you’ll need the following ingredients:
- 1 oz. cannabis-infused blueberry syrup (separate instructions below)
- 2 oz. vodka
- 1/2 oz. blue curaçao
- 1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice
- Champagne or sparkling wine
To make the infused blueberry syrup, you’ll need the following:
- 1 cup blueberries – either frozen or fresh
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 gram ground and decarboxylated cannabis
Combine the blueberries, water, and sugar in a saucepan and put on medium heat. The blueberries will burst in the heat and the whole mixture thickens. At this point add in the weed and simmer for 15 minutes. Strain out the weed particles with mesh sieve or cheesecloth, and allow to cool. Now you’re ready for the real recipe.
- Use a shaker filled with ice, and put in the infused blueberry syrup, vodka, blue curaçao, and lemon juice.
- Shake it all, and then strain directly into cup (champagne flute or otherwise).
- Top it off with champagne or sparkling wine. And if you like, add some blueberries as a garnish for a finishing touch.
As with any form of edible making, its best to start with a lower dose of infused syrup to ensure you don’t overdo it. Raise the amount as you see fit for your own needs.
Sonoma Style champagne cocktail
I’m adding in this final recipe, but it certainly requires a bit more than the others. The reason is because you must first make cannabis bitters, before you can get to the actual recipe. However, once that part is done, there’s not too much to it. To make the bitters, you need several things. However, if you already have a recipe for this, or want something simpler, do that instead. You’ll need the following:
- ¼ cup dried cherries
- 2 tbsp dried orange peel
- 1 vanilla bean
- 5 cardamom pods, cracked
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 star anise
- ¼ tsp cloves
- ¼ gentian root
- ¼ tsp orris root
- ¼ tsp horehound
- ¼ tsp angelica root
- ¼ tsp dandelion leaf
- 7 grams decarboxylated cannabis
- 2 cups high-proof rye
- 1 cup water
- 2 tbsp simple syrup
Put all ingredients in mason jar except for last three. Pour rye over it, and cover everything. Then store it in a cool, dark place for two weeks (yup, got to do some planning for this one.) Make sure to shake your jar daily. Strain after two weeks, and cover.
Take the rest and put in saucepan, cover with water, and heat to a boil, then simmer for 10 minutes. This is also put in a mason jar and stored for one week, with daily shaking. Strain with cheesecloth after one week, and add to other mixture. Then add in simple syrup, and shake. Three more days of waiting come next, then strain, and you’re good to go. Luckily this produces quite a bit, so it doesn’t have to be done frequently.
The regular recipe is quite simple in comparison. It requires three ingredients, including the cannabis bitters; with the option of a lemon twist garnish:
- 1 sugar cube
- 2-4 dashes of bitters
- Champagne or sparkling wine
- Garnish: lemon twist
- Cover the sugar cube with the bitters
- Put in champagne flute and top it off with sparkling wine.
- Add garnish
Conclusion
If you’re going at it without alcohol, here are some tips for getting through the holiday season sober. However, if alcohol and weed are both your things, these recipes can help you put the two together to create an extra smooth ride, for when you raise your glass to ‘Cheers!’

Stoptober. This phenomenon is more than just the combination of the words ‘stop’ and ‘October’. Every year, countless individuals around the world make the decision to quit smoking, recognising the numerous health benefits and improved quality of life that come with breaking the habit.
In the United Kingdom, an initiative known as Stoptober, created by the National Health Service, has been playing a significant role in helping people kick the smoking habit for good. With October on its way, we’ll be exploring what Stoptober is, its history, the benefits of quitting smoking, and the resources available to support individuals on their journey to a smoke-free life. Let’s do this.
What Is Stoptober?
So what actually is Stoptober and what’s the point of it? Well, Stoptober – a brilliant combination of two words – is an annual public health campaign in the United Kingdom that encourages people to quit smoking for the entire month of October. Launched by Public Health England (PHE) in 2012, this campaign has grown significantly in popularity over the years, motivating millions of smokers to take the first step towards a smoke-free life. What began as a UK affair, has now developed into a worldwide movement. Spectrum writes:
“Stoptober is a national smoking cessation campaign led by Public Health England that encourages smokers to start by abstaining from smoking for 28 days during the month of October. In England… first implemented in 2012… versions have since been adopted in other countries, including New Zealand, the Netherlands, and France, following a positive evaluation of the first campaign”
The central idea behind Stoptober is to provide support, motivation, and resources to individuals who wish to quit smoking, making it easier for them to succeed. As anyone who’s ever tried to quit anything will know – be it drinking, unhealthy food, or smoking – doing it with other people makes it a lot easier. How easy would it be to avoid having that delicious Friday pint if all your mates were avoiding it too. Or, in this case, how much easier would it be to stop smoking if lots of people around the world were doing it too.
The History of Stoptober
Where did it come from? The concept of Stoptober was inspired by similar successful campaigns in other countries, such as “mois sans tabac” (month without tobacco) in France and “Stoptober” in the Netherlands. Public Health England adapted and launched the campaign in the UK in 2012, capitalising on the idea that setting a specific, month-long quit date could help individuals overcome the psychological barriers associated with quitting smoking. We’ll get on to why using a month to begin with can be a very useful method of quitting a bit later. Since its inception, Stoptober has seen remarkable success, with millions of participants and numerous success stories of people who have successfully quit smoking during the month of October. Supposedly, since its creation in 2012, over 10 million people have attempted Stoptober. The Gov UK website writes:
“Stoptober continues to effectively drive smokers to make a quit attempt. In 2020, the campaign generated quit attempts among 12.3% of all smokers and recent ex-smokers, with 4% reporting that they were still not smoking at 4 weeks.”
Like Dry January, and many other months dedicated to quitting a habit, Stoptober has become an annual tradition for many, offering a structured and supportive environment for those looking to stop smoking.
How Stoptober Works
So, how does it work? Well, Stoptober is a campaign that helps you quit smoking during October – that much is clear. But there are specific methods that help along the way. Here’s how it goes down:
Choose Your Quit Date
The first step is choosing your quit date. Participants are encouraged to set a specific quit date within the month of October. This date serves as a target to work toward, helping individuals mentally prepare for their quit attempt. Usually, as you’d expect, this is the 1st of October.
Resources
There’s a bunch of online and offline resources that the Stoptober campaign offers. These include a dedicated website, a mobile app, and a free Quit Kit, which can be ordered online or picked up at specific pharmacies.
Support
There’s also support that comes with the Stoptober app. The app and website provide personalised support based on individual smoking habits and preferences. Users can set goals, track progress, and access helpful tips and advice. Participants can also engage with others on the online community, sharing their experiences, challenges, and success stories. This sense of community can be incredibly motivating. It’s always easier stopping a habit when you have other people’s stories to feel inspired by. How is anyone supposed to know that climbing a mountain is possible, if there’s no one who’s climbed it around to tell their story? It’s the same concept.
Alternatives
For those who require it, Stoptober provides access to NRT (Nicotine Replacement Therapy) products, such as nicotine gum, patches, and lozenges, to help manage withdrawal symptoms. They may also suggest you try vapes, although this probably doesn’t count as completely stopping smoking. Although, if you’re finding it very difficult to stop, a vape is better than smoking.
The Science
The methods behind Stoptober are not random, they are rooted in behavioural science and evidence-based strategies. There’s a lot of thought that goes behind this approach of quitting. By encouraging participants to set a quit date and providing support in the form of resources, counselling, and NRT, the campaign addresses some of the key factors that influence successful habit breaking. Remember, it supposedly takes around a month to develop a habit, which can also apply to breaking them. Committing for an entire month seems like a far more accessible plan than simply quitting forever. However, the reason why this is perfect, is because after that month the substance will have far less of a hold over the user. The GOV UK website writes:
“People are 5 times more likely to quit for good if they can make it to at least 28 days smoke free”
This kind of goal setting is accessible, doable and genuinely effective. In addition, goal setting is also a part of this behavioural therapy. Setting a starting date establishes a clear and achievable goal, making it easier for individuals to commit to quitting. Then, when individuals feel stuck or tempted, there’s a great deal of online support for them to look through to not feel so alone. In addition, because it’s a global movement, the chances of smokers finding other people that are also giving Stoptober a try is highly likely. Therefore, as is the case with collective mentality, stopping with others simply is easier. You’re part of a campaign, not on your own.
Why Quit Smoking?
You most likely already know this stuff, but reminding yourself why you want to stop smoking is paramount to increase the success of Stoptober. If you can always remember the ‘why’, then the ‘how’ becomes a lot more doable. Around 80% of the world smokes, which is around 1.3 billion people. In the UK, it’s around 6.6 million people and in the US it’s around 28.3 million. Smoking is everywhere and it’s a leading cause of preventable death worldwide. In fact, in the US, half a million deaths a year are smoke-related. Smoking is responsible for a range of health problems, including:
Cancer
Smoking is the largest preventable cause of cancer worldwide, with carcinogens in tobacco smoke leading to lung, mouth, throat, oesophagus, pancreas, and bladder cancers.
Respiratory Issues
Smoking damages the lungs, leading to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic bronchitis, and emphysema. This makes it harder to breathe, as well as do exercise.
Heart Problems
Smoking significantly increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, and peripheral artery disease.
Fertility
Smoking can affect fertility in both men and women and is linked to complications during pregnancy, including low birth weight and sudden infant death syndrome.
Ageing
Smoking accelerates the ageing process, leading to premature wrinkles, yellowed teeth, and an ‘old look’.
Financial Burden
Smoking is an expensive habit, with the cost of cigarettes accumulating over time. It’s way cheaper to not smoke than to smoke.
Although it’s rather bleak to think about all the problems and health concerns that smoking causes, it’s also good to remind yourself if you are deciding to try Stoptober. These hard cold facts may be the driving force for your quitting attempt.
The Benefits of Quitting Smoking
Remember, if you do try Stoptober, another great reason to keep going is for all the benefits. Quitting smoking is not just about avoiding health problems; it also comes with a wide range of immediate and long-term benefits. Some of the most notable advantages of quitting smoking include:
Improved Health
The body starts to repair itself almost immediately after quitting. Lung function improves, and the risk of many smoking-related diseases decreases.
Increased Life Expectancy
Quitting smoking significantly extends life expectancy. The earlier one quits, the greater the benefits. Woop!
Better Quality of Life
Ex-smokers report improved quality of life, including enhanced physical fitness, better sleep, and increased energy levels.
Financial Savings
Quitting smoking results in substantial financial savings by not purchasing cigarettes. You can finally go for all those expensive meals you wanted!
Secondhand Smoke
By quitting, individuals also protect their loved ones from the harmful effects of secondhand smoke.
Sense of Accomplishment
Successfully quitting smoking is a remarkable personal achievement that boosts self-esteem and confidence. It might feel difficult now but, once you do it, you’ll feel like an absolute boss.
Stoptober
Stoptober is a vital public health campaign that has made a significant impact in the UK and beyond. By providing support, resources, and a structured framework for quitting smoking, it empowers individuals to take control of their health and break free from the grips of tobacco addiction. While Stoptober is a great starting point for anyone looking to quit smoking, the journey to a smoke-free life is a personal one, and it may require multiple attempts. Anyone who tries, deserves a round of applause. So what do you reckon, will you give it a go?
