- Oven
- Baking dish with a see-through cover
- Oven thermometer
- Medium saucepan
- Cheesecloth
- Silicone spatula
- Heat-proof container
- Oven mitt
- Grinder (optional)
Instructions
- Break the cannabis flower into small pieces.
- Preheat the oven to 212º F and put your cannabis bud material in the baking dish in an even layer. Put the oven thermometer on top of the flower and cover the dish.
- Allow the cannabis to decarboxylate for 1 hour and 20 minutes. Check the oven thermometer to maintain a consistent temperature.
- Turn the oven off and take out the baking dish, allowing it to cool for about 30 minutes before taking off the cover.
- Boil a quart of water in a medium saucepan. Put the butter in and allow it to melt.
- When the butter is melted, pour the cannabis and reduce to a low simmer. Allow the mixture to cook for about 3 hours.
- Strain the mixture with a cheesecloth over a container. Use a spatula to press the material gently and squeeze out the liquid.
- Cover the mixture and allow it to cool to room temperature. Keep it in the refrigerator for about 12 hours. Remove the cannabutter and dispose of the water. Cover again in a sealed container and leave in the refrigerator for later use.
How to Make THC Gummies with Cannabutter
Cannabis gummies can be made with your favorite butter or oil, including MCT and coconut oil. Here, we will show you how to use your prepared cannabis butter to make your weed gummies.
Ingredients
Yields: 16 servings
- 1 package of flavored Jell-O or an alternative
- 1 ½ cups of juice (choose a flavor that goes well with your Jell-O flavor)
- ½ cup honey
- ¼ cup cannabutter
- 4 packages of unflavored Knox gelatin
- ⅛ teaspoon of cornstarch
Cooking Equipment and Supplies
- Silicone gummy molds
- Cooking pot
- Whisk
- Airtight container
- Small plate
How to Make Cannabis Gummies
- Mix the Jell-O and 1 cup of juice in a medium saucepan on low heat.
- While the ingredients are cooking, add the honey and your cannabutter and increase the heat slightly to a low boil. Make sure to check the mixture to avoid burning it. Reduce the heat if needed.
- While it’s heating, mix the four packages of Knox gelatin with ½ cup of juice and allow the mixture to sit for 5 minutes.
- Add the gelatin and juice mix to the saucepan and cook the ingredients on low heat for 5 to 6 minutes. Whisk the ingredients constantly. Ensure the ingredients on the sides and bottom are evenly mixed.
- When complete, pour the ganja gummies mixture into the silicone mold and allow it to cool to room temperature. When it’s cool, put it in the refrigerator for a few hours, preferably overnight.
- When you’re done, carefully remove the cannabis gummies from the molds onto a small plate. Put them in cornstarch to prevent them from sticking together. Store your weed gummies in a refrigerator.

5 Marijuana-Infused Food Recipes You Can Make at Home

For experienced cannabis connoisseurs and foodies alike, nothing usually surpasses the taste and feel of homemade meals.
If you’re used to smoking or vaping cannabis, perhaps it’s time you experienced the subtle but powerful punch of edibles. Today, there’s practically nothing to which you can’t infuse marijuana to get edibles.
In this article, we’ll discuss 5 marijuana-infused food recipes. Whether you simply want to get high or looking for an effective way to combine CBD with your food, these recipes are versatile enough to accommodate improvisation of any kind.
However, one crucial thing to keep in mind is how you dose your cannabis. As always, even for experienced smokers, it’s best to start low and go slow. Anywhere between 2.5-10 mg is most ideal. You can refer to our dosage guide for further details on dosing.
If you’re not so good when it comes to cooking, there is no need to worry; if well-adhered to, these recipes require very little to no culinary skills. Okay, let’s dive in already!
#1 Homemade Cannabutter
We’ve decided to start from the simplest weed recipe of all — a simple cannabutter. Cannabutter is basically the only ingredient that confers cannabis effects on your edibles.
Without cannabutter, there’s actually no cannabis-infused anything! So, why not start from here? Besides, it’s the easiest to make.
You can find cannabutter in almost any dispensary, but here you have a recipe to make yours. You can sprinkle or drizzle cannabutter on just about any food item; cakes, snacks, salads, potatoes, full course meals, and so on.
To make cannabutter desserts, add a measured amount of cannabis oil to your dessert. So to make this quick, easy cannabis-infused butter recipe, you’ll need to purchase good quality buds and butter to go with it.
Directions
First, grind the cannabis and decarboxylate it in an oven at 230°F for about 30 minutes. Then melt the butter on low heat in a saucepan. Add the decarboxylated cannabis to the melted butter, stir at intervals. Allow the mixture to simmer for another 45 minutes.
Turn off the heat and let the cannabis-butter mixture cool for a little while. Using a cheesecloth, strain the oil from the mixture into a container, a jar preferably. Discard the remaining plant matter, seal up the jar and store it in a fridge or freezer. You can take out any quantity you want whenever you need it.
#2 Cannabis Chocolate Chips Cookies
If you’re a fan of chocolate and cookies, then here’s a great recipe for you. As the name implies, you’re mixing cannabis directly into chocolate chip cookies. If you’re familiar with baking, you’ll find this process easy. All your cookies’ ingredients remain the same. The only change is the addition of cannabutter to the mix.
Note that from here on, it is assumed that you already have your cannabutter made. Here are the ingredients you need:
- 2/3 cup flour
- 6 oz. of cannabutter
- 1 teaspoon baking soda, table salt, and vanilla extract
- 1 oz. of regular butter
- 3/4 cup sugar and chocolate chips
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 big eggs
Directions
Preheat the oven to 375°F and mix the flour, baking soda, and salt in one small bowl. In another larger bowl, mix cannabutter, sugar, brown sugar, butter, and vanilla extract.
Whisk the mixture thoroughly to get an even consistency. To the larger bowl containing cannabutter and butter, add the eggs, one at a time. Now add the small bowl’s content into the larger one, mix it and add chocolate chips. Mix again, then bake for up to 12 minutes.
#3 Weed Ice Cream
Here’s a fantastic option for making marijuana edible desserts. Imagine the taste of a yummy ice-cream infused with marijuana. Marijuana ice cream is just a perfect choice for dessert!
The ingredients you’ll need are 600 ml of ice-cream, 50 grams of cannabutter, any flavor of your choice, and 75 grams of sugar. For the process, you’ll need 2 saucepans and a mixing bowl.
Directions
Place the ice cream in one saucepan and heat it over low or medium heat until it begins to simmer. Add the cannabutter into the second saucepan and melt it over medium heat. Add some sugar into it. Allow it to simmer. Store the mixture properly to ensure even distribution of the ingredients in the mix.
At this point, you can add the flavor. Mix again until you get an even texture. Combine both ingredients and mix thoroughly. After this, your recipe is ready. You can store it in a fridge and take from it whenever you need a dessert.
#4 Marijuana Olive Oil
This recipe is similar to the first, only that we’re using olive oil instead of regular butter. You can get as many as 8 servings of marijuana olive oil from this recipe. You’ll need to get the right marijuana strain of your choice and about 8 ounces of olive oil to start.
Directions
Follow the direction provided above to ground and decarboxylate your cannabis buds. After that, place the ground decarboxylated cannabis and olive oil into a pan, then let the mixture simmer on low heat for up to 60 minutes. Make sure to stir properly until the oil completely covers the cannabis.
Turn off the heat after one hour and strain the oil using cheesecloth or a fine-mesh strainer into a glass cup or mason jar with a seal.
Allow it to cool, then store the cannabis-infused olive oil in the refrigerator or freezer. You have up to one month to use the oil if it is refrigerated.
#5 Marijuana-infused Popcorn
Marijuana popcorn is the last recipe on this list, but, of course, it is not the previous cannabutter food recipe there is. Marijuana-infused popcorn is relatively easy to make. And it is a perfect idea for a sweet time on the sofa, in front of the TV.
With this recipe, you can have a cinema experience at home with a bit of a “high” experience added to it. The ingredients you need are:
- Popcorn kernels
- Table salt
- 1 tablespoon of butter
- 1 tablespoon of cannabutter
- Saucepan
- Oven
- Stirrer
Place the saucepan over medium heat and throw in your ingredients, one at a time. Stir the mixture. To ensure that all the kernels pop, try to move the pan over the stove.

No bake recipes are easy to follow, quick to do, and delicious. Keep in mind, some no bake recipes can require using the stovetop or microwave.
If you want to learn how to make easy and delicious no bake edibles with cannabutter, we have got a few recipes to keep you and your buddies satisfied and feeling good.
How to Make Cannabutter
It all starts with a properly infused cannabutter that contains the plant’s active ingredients. There are a variety of ways to make cannabutter ranging from crock-pot to stovetop methods.
Generally, it is easier to make cannabutter in a crock-pot but making it on the stovetop works too. You can also use specialty devices to simplify the herbal infusion process.
In addition, you can use a wide range of cannabis material including high-quality and resin-rich flower buds or lower potency and leftover cannabis trim, leaves, and stems. Keep in mind, when decarboxylating cannabis you will need an oven.
Here, we include a recipe on how to make cannabutter and 3 easy no-bake recipes for cookies, cake, and cheesecake! Feel free to substitute unsalted butter for cannabutter as needed to lower the potency of the edibles.
Ingredients
Here is what you will need to make cannabutter:
- 1 gram of high-quality flower buds
- Baking sheet
- Wooden spoon
- Grinder
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup water
- Small saucepan or pot
- Thermometer
- Cheesecloth or strainer
- Storage container
Stovetop Method
Here is how you can make cannabutter on a stovetop:
- Preheat your oven to about 240º F. Place your cannabis material on a baking sheet or oven-safe tray. Lining the tray with aluminum foil can prevent the buds from sticking onto the baking sheet.
- Bake the cannabis for around 30 or 40 minutes. Decarboxylation activates the plant’s bioactive compounds such as cannabinoids and terpenes.
- Grind the decarboxylated cannabis buds.
- Put the water and the butter in a pot and heat it until the butter is melted.
- Pour the cannabis into the pot and consistently stir while the pot is over medium heat. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 3 hours.
- Strain the mixture using a cheesecloth to separate the infused butter from the plant material. Pour the contents into a separate container.
- Place your storage container in the refrigerator to allow it to solidify.
Slow Cooker Method
Here is how you can make cannabutter with a slow cooker:
- Follow step one from the recipe above to decarboxylate your cannabis material.
- Grind up your baked cannabis.
- Set the crockpot on its lowest setting and ensure it does not go above 200º F since this can destroy cannabinoids and lower the potency of the cannabutter.
- Place the butter and cannabis in the crock pot and stir after the first hour and then every few hours after that. The infusion can be left cooking for up to 14 hours.
- Strain the mixture to separate the butter and cannabis material.
- Let the cannabutter cool for about 3 hours in the slow cooker.

No Bake Edibles With Cannabutter Recipes
1. Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies
Ingredients
- 2 cups of sugar
- 8 tablespoons of cannabutter
- ½ cup of milk
- ¼ cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 cups of rolled oats
- 1 cup of peanut butter
- 1 tablespoon of pure vanilla extract
- Big pinch of salt
How to Make Chocolate Peanut Butter Cannabis Cookies
- Line a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper.
- In a saucepan, boil the cannabutter, milk, cocoa, and sugar over medium heat. Stir occasionally. Allow the mixture to boil for 1 minute. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Pour the rest of the ingredients into the saucepan and mix well.
- On a wax or parchment paper-lined baking sheet, drop teaspoonfuls of the mixture and allow them to sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes. Store in an airtight container and keep refrigerated for up to 3 days.
2. No Bake Chocolate Cake In a Mug
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons of sugar
- 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
- 3 tablespoons of cannabutter
- 3 tablespoons of whole milk
- ¼ teaspoon of baking powder
- 3 tablespoons of semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Splash of vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
How to Make Cannabis Cake In a Mug
- Pour the sugar, flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking soda into a 12 oz microwave-safe mug. Stir the ingredients with the fork. Pour in the cannabutter, milk, vanilla, and mix until smooth. Add in the chocolate chips and stir.
- Microwave the mug for 90 seconds. Allow the mug to pull for about 2 minutes. Eat it as is or with whipped cream, ice cream, or any of your favorite toppings.
3. No Bake Cheesecake
Ingredients
Crust
- 5 tablespoons of cannabutter
- 1 sleeve of crushed graham crackers
- ¼ cup of granulated sugar
- Pinch of salt
- 1 cup of heavy cream
Filling
- 8 oz softened cream cheese
- ¼ cup of sour cream
- 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon of salt
How to Make No-Bake Cannabis Cheesecake
- In the bowl, mix the cannabutter, sugar, salt, and crushed graham crackers. Press the mixture into the bottom and sides of an 8” springform pan.
- In a bowl or stand mixer, mix the heavy cream for about 5 minutes or until it forms stiff peaks.
- In a bowl, mix the sour cream and cream cheese together until smooth and add the salt, lemon juice, vanilla, and powdered sugar. Fold whipped cream into the mixture and pour into the crust, making it smooth on top.
- Cover the cheesecake and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.

There are endless uses for cannabis butter, both in cooking and baking. Let’s learn how to make this time-tested cooking ingredient, as well as discover some great ways to use it.
Making Cannabutter
Making cannabutter includes heating butter and cannabis together to activate the THC in the cannabis and infuse the butter. Activating the THC with heat is a process known as decarboxylation.
- Grind 1 ounce of high-quality cannabis flower and layer a cookie sheet with the crushed flower.
- Preheat your oven to 245 degrees Fahrenheit, and place the cookie sheet with cannabis into the oven for a half hour, turning the sheet once or twice while it heats to distribute the heat evenly. When you remove the crushed cannabis after a half hour, it will be very dry.
- In a large saucepan, bring 5 cups of water to a boil. With the water boiling, place a pound (four sticks) of butter in the water until it melts completely.
- Place the cannabis in the water and butter mixture, mix the solution, and set it on low so it slightly simmers. The cannabis should remain slightly above the bottom of the pan, not on the bottom. Cook for 2½ to 3 hours. The top of the mix should appear glossy and have a thick consistency. Remove the pan from the heat.
- Use a large, heat proof bowl, and place a double layer of cheesecloth over the top, securing it with tape or twine.
- Slowly strain the marijuana mixture through the cheesecloth and into the bowl, When the pan is empty, remove the twine or tape and lift the cheesecloth supporting all four corners. Squeeze out any butter that remains. Allow the butter mixture to cool.
- Place the butter mixture in a refrigerator until thoroughly cooled. The infused butter will rise to a solid top layer. Run a sharp knife around the perimeter of the butter and lift it from the bowl. Remove any remaining water from it.
- Your cannabutter is complete! Place it in the refrigerator for later use.
(You can make half this amount by using half of the ingredient ratios mentioned.)
Savory Uses for Cannabis Butter Recipes
Although cannabis edibles often feature sweet dessert items, an increasing number of great recipes are being created to produce tasty savory dishes as well.
Bacon Blue Cheese Dip
Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons softened cannabutter
- 2 tablespoons softened unsalted butter
- 3 teaspoon minced garlic
- 16 ounces softened cream cheese
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 6 ounces blue cheese crumbles
- 5 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
- ¼ cup chopped chives, divided
- ¼ cup chopped pecans, divided
- 1 French bread baguette
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees (F).
- In a cast iron skillet over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter and swirl melted butter in the pan to coat the edges. Add garlic and cook on low until lightly golden. Remove from heat.
- Pour garlic and melted butter into an electric mixing bowl (mixer should be fitted with a paddle attachment). Add cream cheese and mix on low until smooth. Slowly add heavy cream, mixing until combined.
- Add blue cheese crumbles, bacon, 2 tablespoons chopped chives, and 2 tablespoons chopped pecans to the mixture. Spread mixture on the bottom of a buttered cast-iron pan.
- Place the dip in a preheated oven, and bake for 20 minutes until bubbly. Allow to cool slightly. Top with remaining chives and pecans. Serve the warm dip with cannabuttered baguette slices (see below).
Cannabuttered Baguette Slices
- Cut baguette into rounds and place on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
- Toast at 350 degrees Fahrenheit until golden brown, about 10 minutes or less.
- Liberally spread each baguette round with cannabutter and return to the oven very briefly until melted. Remove baguette rounds from the oven and enjoy with blue cheese dip.
Macaroni & Cheese
Ingredients
- 1 pound elbow macaroni
- ½ cup cannabutter
- ½ cup flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Black pepper to taste
- 4½ cups whole milk, separated
- 4½ cups shredded extra-sharp cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Boil a large pot of lightly salted water. Add elbow macaroni, stirring occasionally until cooked al dente (about 8 minutes). Drain.
- Melt cannabutter in a saucepan over low heat.
- Stir in flour, salt, and pepper until smooth (about 5 minutes).
- Slowly pour milk into butter-flour mixture, stirring continuously until mixture is smooth and bubbling (about 5 minutes).
- Add 4 cups cheddar cheese to milk mixture and stir until cheese is melted (about 2 to 4 minutes).
- Fold macaroni into cheese sauce until thoroughly mixed.
- Sprinkle remaining cheddar cheese on top of hot macaroni and cheese
Butternut Squash Soup
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons cannabutter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1½ cups chopped yellow onion
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- 3-pound butternut squash, peeled
- ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
- 6 cups chicken stock
- Heavy cream (optional, to drizzle on top for garnish)
Instructions
- Cut the squash into cubes, toss in a bowl with the olive oil, salt and pepper to coat. Place squash on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and roast in a preheated 350-degree (F) oven for a half hour or until the squash is golden and caramelized. Place squash cubes in a bowl and set aside.
- Melt the cannabutter in a soup pot over low heat, then add the onion, salt, and pepper, and heat on low-to-medium heat for 10 minutes, stirring frequently so the butter doesn’t burn.
- Add the roasted squash cubes and cinnamon. Stir for a couple of minutes.
- Add the chicken stock, bring to a low boil over medium heat, then reduce to a simmer for 2 minutes.
- Puree the soup with an immersion blender (you can also cool the soup slightly and puree in a blender in batches).
- Taste, and adjust the seasonings to personal preference.
- Drizzle a small amount of heavy cream on top and serve.
Dessert recipes baked with cannabutter are one of the most popular and traditional ways to use this infused butter. Although tasty, proceed with caution, and don’t eat too many of these tasty treats.
4. Bud Brownies
Ingredients
- ½ cup flour
- 1 cup sugar
- ½ cup cannabutter, melted over low heat
- 2 large eggs
- 1/3 cup cocoa powder
Instructions
- Prepare the ingredients.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Grease a 9- by 9-inch baking pan.
- In a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and cocoa powder.
- In another small bowl, whisk together the melted cannabutter and eggs.
- Combine the cannabutter and egg mixture with the flour mixture.
- Stir until just combined.
- Bake the brownies for 25 to 35 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes.
- Cut into squares and serve.
- Spread with chocolate frosting or serve with vanilla ice cream.
5. Sugar Cookies
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour measured, then sifted
- 1½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1½ cups cannabutter, softened
- 2½ cups granulated sugar (1½ cups granulated for recipe, 1 cup for rolling
- 2 eggs
- 1¼ tablespoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Line four baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
- Place the softened cannabutter and sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer. Cream the butter and sugar together on high until light and fluffy (a few minutes) Then, turn the mixer on low and add the eggs and vanilla extract.
- With the mixer running on low, slowly add the flour mixture.
- Scrape the bowl and beat again for 30 seconds.
- Use cookie cutters to form the dough into shapes and place on greased cookie sheets.
- Bake each sheet of sugar cookies for 10-11 minutes until the edges are slightly golden and the centers are just barely set.
- Cool completely on cookie sheets.
