New California Bill to Allow Limited Amount of THC in Hemp-Derived Products

Published

on

In September 2024, California Governor Gavin Newsom, announced new emergency regulations which were aimed at protecting young children from the effects caused from tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) (1). The regulations now in effect, ban retail sales of products containing detectable of THC. For example, these could be dietary products, hemp food, or bevarages (1). The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) recommended the regulations which were approved by the Office of Administrative Law, because of “ …increasing health incidents related to intoxicating hemp products, which state regulators have found sold across the state. Children are particularly at risk should they consume these products. Studies show that use of these products can negatively impact cognitive functions, memory, and decision-making abilities in developing brains,” (1).

High Stakes and High Demand: Will Las Vegas Finally Allow Cannabis Near Casinos?

Published

By

Las Vegas, a city known for pushing boundaries, remains curiously hesitant when it comes to legal cannabis access on the Strip. Despite Nevada’s legalization of recreational marijuana, strict federal regulations keep casinos from getting involved—forcing tourists to turn to illicit markets instead of regulated dispensaries. But could that soon change? Assemblymember Max Carter II is preparing to introduce a bill aimed at bridging the gap between the city’s booming tourism industry and the state’s struggling legal cannabis market. Instead of allowing full-scale cannabis sales on the Strip, the bill proposes a kiosk pickup system at casinos and hotels, where visitors could legally receive cannabis deliveries from state-approved dispensaries.

If actor Woody Harrelson could choose anyone living or dead to patronize his Los Angeles marijuana dispensary’s “Ganja Giggle Garden,” he says he’d pick a classic cannabis icon: Bob Marley. But he conceded that he doesn’t think he could go “toke-for-toke” with the late reggae star. During an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Monday, the host posed the hypothetical to Harrelson, asking who he’d most like to invite to the marijuana consumption lounge attached to the dispensary he co-owns with Bill Maher called The Woods.
