Out-of-state officers shot and killed a man wielding two knives blocks away from the RNC, police say

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Ohio police officers in Wisconsin for the Republican National Convention shot and killed a man who was wielding two knives near the convention, Milwaukee’s police chief said Tuesday.

Five members of the Columbus, Ohio, police department fired on the man, who had a knife in each hand, refused police commands and charged at an unarmed man before police fired, Milwaukee Chief Jeffrey Norman said at a news conference. Two knives were recovered from the scene, the chief said.

Weld Critical Incident Response Team investigating inmate death at the Weld County Jail Sunday

The Weld County Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the cause of an inmate found dead at the Weld County Jail on Sunday afternoon.

Just after 3 p.m., Weld Sheriff’s Office detentions deputies found a 56-year-old male inmate unresponsive, according to a Sunday evening release from the response team.

Deputies administered CPR — and requested medical staff and paramedics respond — but the man was pronounced dead.

Phil Donahue, whose pioneering daytime talk show launched an indelible television genre that brought success to Oprah Winfrey, Montel Williams, Ellen DeGeneres and many others, has died. He was 88.

NBC’s “Today” show, citing family members, said Donahue died Sunday after a long illness.

Dubbed “the king of daytime talk,” Donahue was the first to incorporate audience participation in a talk show, typically during a full hour with a single guest.
