Rockies’ German Marquez placed on injured list with right elbow inflammation following first start of season
German Marquez’s comeback was short-lived — at least for now.
After making his first start of the season on July 14 in New York in his return from Tommy John surgery, the Rockies placed the right-hander on the 15-day injured list on Monday with right elbow inflammation.
Marquez, who broke the Rockies’ career strikeout record in his 2024 debut, didn’t feel right after that start despite a week off because of the All-Star break.
Mason Hooker wished upon a star. His wish came true.
At age 3, Mason was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. He was a brave but scared little boy, obsessed with baseball and, especially, Rockies icon Todd Helton.
“Baseball helped me think about good things,” Mason said from his home near Grand Junction. “It helped me forget about leukemia.”

In front of a pro-Boston gathering of 35,261 at Coors Field, Colorado outlasted the Red Sox 9-8 in 12 innings to claim the series opener. LoDo rising star Ezequiel Tovar roped the walk-off single to improve the Rockies to 6-4 in extras this year and send the red-clad crowd streaming toward the exits.
“There were a lot of Sox fans there, and at times, it felt like an away game,” Sam Hilliard said. “But we were resilient tonight… Guys coming out of the bullpen are doing a great job right now, making big pitches, and we had a pass-the-baton mentality.
