Stanley Hotel’s horror-themed weekend drops visitors into “Insidious” and “The Purge”
Just in time for Halloween, Estes Park’s Stanley Hotel will host a horror-themed weekend that includes interactive events and screenings of a new series from Peacock and Blumhouse Productions.
Blumhouse, the company behind frightening films such as “Get Out,” “Sinister” and “M3GAN,” is turning the historic hotel into an immersive experience, according to a statement. The “Overnightmare,” as it’s called, runs Oct. 18-20.
Tickets are $1,031 each at stanleylive.com/peacock-blumhouse-overnightmare and include a two-night stay in a double-occupancy room in The Lodge, the themed experience of your choice, one dinner, $100 breakfast/lunch credit, two drinks, two nights of screenings, and “interactive moments and photo ops.”
A new app created by Denver youth and University of Colorado Boulder scholars allows users to anonymously report safety and wellbeing concerns to community organizations trained to help, without immediately involving law enforcement.
The app, Power of One, was inspired by the 20-year-old Safe2Tell program that allows Colorado students and community members to report issues to local law enforcement anonymously. The new app offers an alternative for young people reluctant to talk to police.
“Some historically marginalized communities have been reluctant to use Safe2Tell due to a strong code of silence, stigma associated with ‘snitching,’ concerns about possible retaliation and cynicism toward police,” said Beverly Kingston, director of CU Boulder’s Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence. “We need ways to reach them, too.”

Jeffco planning commission casts unanimous vote against proposed 250-acre Conifer bike park
The Jefferson County Planning Commission has recommended against the approval of a proposed chairlift-access mountain bike park in Conifer — taking a unanimous vote that is a bad sign for the first-of-its-kind attraction in Colorado.
Jeffco’s county commissioners, who have final say over the future of the 250-acre Shadow Mountain Bike Park and a special use permit the project is seeking, are scheduled to take up the proposal on Oct. 1.
The planning commission voted 7-0 against the bike park on Monday night. The park would feature a dedicated chairlift to ferry riders uphill and 16 miles of trails winding down an 830-foot vertical drop for the payoff ride.
