If you had to guess what “Swan Upping” meant, what would you say? Go ahead, Take a gander. Here’s a hint: it has nothing to do with one-upping a swan, because let’s be honest, swans will always win whatever game you’ve got going on.

Give up? Swan Upping is basically the royal version of census taking. And it’s all the royal Rage. Originally the swans would be part of a feast, but the meat has fallen from favor and they are released to enjoy their freedom.

The British Crown enjoys ownership of all unmarked mute swans in open water. Rights over swans may, however, be granted to a British subject by the Crown (accordingly they may also be claimed by prescription). ^{Until the 16th century, the ownership of swans in a given body of water was commonly granted to landowners. Only two companies still have swan marks: Vintners’ Livery Company and Dyers’ Livery Company.

Swan Upping is now less about census taking and more about waterfowl education and conservation. The swans are weighed and checked for any signs of injury and illness.

Professor Christopher Perrins of @UniOfOxford and the @swan_support team were on board to carry out all necessary checks on the swans.

Soap opera reflect and influence opinions in unexpected ways.

Since they first appeared in 1949, they have captured the audience’s imagination. Whether nighttime or daytime they talesof sex, power, love, betrayal and more wooed viewers and kept them entertained. Daytime soap operas become addictive and up to the premier of streaming, a part of what the country thought. And in so, soap operas reflect the changing status of cannabis. All My Children, One Life to Life, Days of our Lives, and more built legions of fans who grappled with some of the issues discussed openly in a comfortable setting. The approach to birth control, war, divorce, drug use, mixed relationships and more evolved and continues to reflect the current public opinion. Almost 90% of the US believe cannabis should be legal in some form and AARP believes it has benefits. And soap operas had a hand in the change.

Historically, soap operas have addressed various substances, including marijuana, often using them as plot devices to create dramatic tension. In the late 20th century, drug use was frequently depicted in exaggerated scenarios that highlighted the dangers of addiction and substance abuse. For instance, characters were shown experiencing dramatic consequences from drug use, such as overdoses or legal troubles, which served as cautionary tales for viewers. Often, sometime was slipped it and consumed unknowlying, leading them down a path of addiction and bad behavior. As cannabis become more popular, the marijuana become my accepted, like alcohol.

Soap operas played a role in acceptance of medical marijuana. In a General Hospital plot line, Dr. Patrick Drake included discussions about medical marijuana. The portrayal aimed to reflect real-life conversations surrounding the use of medical cannabis, showcasing its potential therapeutic effects in a dramatic context.

Recent studies indicate that nearly half of soap opera viewers recall instances of marijuana use within the shows they watch. On the show One Life to Live, the character Natalie Buchanan highlighted the struggles of patients seeking alternative treatments for their ailments, including the use of medical marijuana. This type of entertainment also made the discussion about cancer a topic to be discussed, not hidden.

Eventually, it become normalized. In fact, a couple of characters, one on Somerset and one on One Life TO Live, always looked stoned, but the writers never came out and said it.

Early pioneers in the industry become inadvertent advocates. Rather than do the conventional drug addiction plot, writer/creator Agnes Nixon decided she had to do something extra to make contact with young people home from school for the summer months. She had cameras go to the real life Odyssey House drug treatment center and film Craig/Levitt talking with real drug patients who discussed their own real addictions with great dramatic impact. Held since 1944 to honor artists, writers and other creatives, it celebrates film, television and streaming. Founded by the Foreign Press Association, it is now run by the Golden Globe Foundation. This year, in a nod to the mainstream acceptance, Golden Globe winner Hacks treats marijuana like normal, making it an unacknowledged winner. The show, lead by the talented Jean Smart, is clever, witty and takes the mundane and is laugh out loud funny.

The HBO Max series offers a nuanced portrayal of marijuana use within its comedic narrative, reflecting evolving attitudes towards cannabis in contemporary television. The show has been cutting edge and pushed both stars into the limelight with their witty jokes and strong plot lines.

In “Hacks,” marijuana serves as a tool for character development, particularly for Ava Daniels, played by Hannah Einbinder. Ava’s cannabis use is presented as part of her lifestyle, contributing to her characterization as a young, somewhat stereotypical twenty-something writer. This portrayal aligns with Einbinder’s real-life experiences, as she has openly discussed using marijuana in her youth to counteract the effects of ADHD medication.

The show cleverly uses marijuana to highlight generational differences between Ava and Deborah Vance, played by Jean Smart. Diddy’s Cannabis Investment Fail Saves Industry A Scandal

It is a jaw dropping scandal flooding the news…but the cannabis industry is avoiding it because the big investment deal fell through.

The entertainment industry and the public is general have been shocked by the scandal around Diddy (formerly Puff Daddy, Sean Combs, etc). The tentacles of his being charged at a federal level is making causing X in the music, entertainment, fashion, alcohol and monied worlds…but one industry is breathing a sigh of relief. There is a flood of celebrates who worried they will be pulled down including Ashton Kutcher, actor and Silicon Valley investor, Kevin Hart, Usher, Jay-Z, and more. But Diddy’s failed cannabis investment saves industry a scandal, right as it seems to waiting for good news.

Combs was arrested on Sept. 16 and charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution charges. He is depicted as the leader of an alleged criminal enterprise, subjecting women and men to a pattern of physical and sexual abuse, according to federal prosecutors.

Investigators allege over a span of years, Combs would ply victims with narcotics and even resort to violence and intimidation during days-long sex sessions in events called “freak offs”. Big names were at these events and it has people running scared.

Diddy deeply dove into being part of the merge of cannabis companies Cresco Labs Inc. and Columbia Care Inc. They are currently two of the largest cannabis companies and were exploring a joint operations while adding additional investors. Diddy’s $155 million part would have given him a huge foothold into the growing market. His reach, wealth, and connections could have helped the industry. Luckily, in August 2023, the $ merger was terminated, canceling and voiding his deal with them.

But what next? Other people near him have a role in the industry including Jay-Z. He Jay-Z started a $10 million investment for minority-owned cannabis startups. He is the Chief Visionary Officer of TPCO Holding.

Wiz Khalifa, Method Man, and Snoop Dog all have fingers in marijuana. Time will tell how the Diddy indictments plays out for all the players.
