A 31-year-old man in the U.K. caught at the centre of an illegal cannabis operation said he was working on the farm to pay off his late father’s medical debt.
The man arrived in the U.K. from Albania in hopes of finding work to pay off the debt and worked a number of above board jobs, including as a cleaner, before he was offered the job at the cannabis grow, reports Wales Online.
When police executed a search warrant at a house in Neath, a town of about 45,000, they spotted the man fleeing out the back door. Inside the home, they found 185 cannabis plants, along with growing equipment. Police later apprehended the man, who offered no comment at the time of his arrest.
Appearing in court earlier this week on a charge of producing a class B drug, the man pleaded guilty.
