Dotan Melech

Dotan Y. Melech is CEO at CTrust, the first credit-scoring and credit-monitoring agency for cannabis businesses. Given the limitations created by federal prohibition, Melech has facilitated receivership, reorganization, and liquidation for many businesses that could have been candidates for Chapter 11 had they not been working in cannabis, including the first and largest receivership in the history of the industry.

Joshua S. Bauchner is the new chair of the Cannabis and Psychedelics Practice Group @ NY & NJ Firm Mandelbaum Barrett and having been in the cannabis space for too many years to mention on the east coast he is a wealth of knowledge on all things NJ & NY.

In this episode we describe, in Joshua’s words the wild wild east; eg the chaos that is New York’s licensing program.

We also talk about the end of bi-partisanship on cannabis as a presidential election approaches and talk specifically about the Mayor of Jersey City, Steve Fulup, and his cannabis & police scare tactics press conference he held last week as he makes a tentative bid for governor.

We rake the coals of SAFE Banking just to keep the embers burning now the chaos of the house, the middle east, elections and a host of other issues put SAFE Banking back on the bottom shelf.

Joshua is involved in the ever-evolving area of psychoactive substances and was instrumental in co-hosting the inaugural Cannabis Symposium in New Jersey. As a notable member of the New Jersey State Bar Association Cannabis Law Committee, the NORML Legal Committee, and the Amicus Committee, he received the New Jersey Law Journal’s Innovator of the Year Award.*

A passion for education and community development, as a licensed real estate instructor in New York, he educates aspiring real estate professionals, and he has served as an adjunct professor at Brooklyn Law School.

After graduating from law school, Josh had the honor of clerking for the Honorable Ursula Ungaro at the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.  He also served as the Deputy Director of the Legal Division at the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs.

Josh is deeply involved in his community. He was appointed by the Manhattan Borough President to Manhattan Community Board 10, where he served as the Board’s treasurer and co-chaired the Committee on Land Use. Additionally, he has played an active role on the Board of Trustees for Wheaton College, the New York Theater Ballet, Frederick Douglass Boulevard Alliance, and the Harlem Wellness Center.

His extensive experience is also evident in representative matters, ranging from construction and design defect claims to defending corporate clients against securities fraud claims presented by the SEC and DOJ.

He is admitted to practice in both New York and New Jersey as well as the United States District Court of Michigan, The United States District Courts for the Southern, Eastern and Western Districts of New York, The United States District Court for the District of New Jersey as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Second and Third Circuit.
