The electoral management considers possible illegal conduct

Idaho’s top election official explains his determination by the fact that a The medical marijuana legalization campaign did not submit enough valid voter signatures for the measure to appear on the ballot in November. He also said the possible illegal solicitation has been turned over to state police for “review and possible criminal investigation.”

Secretary of State Phil McGrane (R) wrote in a letter to the campaign Monday that his office had received “numerous complaints about the petition process” for the marijuana initiative, adding that “even under the most favorable assumption” that every petition sheet was submitted on time and every signature submitted was valid, activists still did not meet the minimum requirements.

To be certified to be on the ballot, the team had to submit the signatures of at least 6 percent of registered voters in the state’s most recent general election, which currently stands at 70,725 signatures. They also needed to reach that 6 percent threshold in at least 18 of the state’s 35 legislative districts.
