The old saying is laughter in the best medicine – science proves it and marijuana helps make it happen.

Nothing changes you mentally and physically than a solid belly laugh. Spending time chuckling lifts you up and science confirms it is good for you. Studies confirm laughter is good for you and has a clear impact on the physical and mental state of mind.  For some people, and at times most people, laughter doesn’t come near enough. Science confirms it is important and marijuana helps it come more naturally.

The good thing with laughter is it has short and long term benefits.  Some of the immediate perks includes the cooling down your stress response resulting ingood, relaxed feeling and lower blood pressure. This also stimulates circulation and aids muscle relaxation, both of which can help reduce some of the physical symptoms of stress.

Longer term effects are even more beneficial.  Negative thoughts manifest into chemical reactions that can affect your body by bringing more stress into your system and decreasing your immunity. By contrast, positive thoughts can actually release neuropeptides that help fight stress and potentially more-serious illnesses.

Laughter may ease pain by causing the body to produce its own natural painkillers.  Additionally many people experience depression, sometimes due to chronic illnesses. Laughter can help lessen your stress, depression and anxiety and may make you feel happier.

The “imagine” of stoners usually involve laughing and giggling. THC, the primary psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis plants, can increase dopamine transmission. The boost in dopamine production increase the euphoric and happy feeling, leading to spontaneous and robust laughter sessions.

Spontaneous laughter differs significantly from self-induced laughter. The former refers to “genuine” or unforced laughter, often in response to a stimulus, whereas the latter describes laughter that is simulated de novo. Spontaneous laughter is often associated with positive mood, whereas simulated laughter is primarily physical and is not necessarily associated with positive emotions or feelings.

Marijuana has gained attention as a potential aid for muscle soreness and recovery, particularly among athletes and fitness enthusiasts. There is growing research evidence to suggest certain compounds in cannabis may offer benefits for managing muscle pain and promoting recovery.

The two primary cannabinoids in marijuana, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), are believed to play key roles in addressing muscle soreness. THC, the psychoactive component, has demonstrated analgesic properties that can help reduce pain perception. CBD, on the other hand, is known for its anti-inflammatory effects, which may help alleviate muscle inflammation and soreness following intense exercise or injury.

Cannabis use has been reported to assist with exercise recovery, pain relief from muscle soreness, and reduction of inflammation. Some athletes and active individuals have turned to marijuana to help speed recovery from post-game injuries and reduce pain.  The potential benefits are attributed to the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects of cannabinoids, as well as their ability to enhance sleep quality, which is crucial for muscle recovery.

Studies have shown that both CBD and THC can acutely reduce subjective feelings of pain intensity. In particular, acute CBD intake has been demonstrated to attenuate muscle damage following resistance exercise in trained individual. Additionally, cannabis use may help regulate the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, potentially contributing to reduced muscle inflammation.

Makes 4-6 servings

For the broth:

  • ½ lb Hard cheese rinds (Pecorino, Parmigiano, Grana, Asiago, Piave, Manchego)
  • 1 Medium red onion
  • 1 Bulb garlic
  • Salt to taste
  • 5 peppercorns
  • 10 rosemary needles
  • 4 c vegetable broth
  • 6 c water

Notes on the cheese

Hard cheeses tend to be saltier than softer ones, and are aged to develop really unique savory flavors. Italian hard cheeses like Pecorino Romano, Parmigiano Reggiano, Grana Padano, and Piave are excellent for this recipe. Simply save rinds and until there is at least a full sandwich bag to make the tasty soup. If other hard cheeses like Manchego are on hand, they can be used to provide you the bulk of the rinds on the Italian side off the cheese wheel, you’ll get salty richness without too much ‘funk’ like with some types.

Soup Ingredients:

  • Kale
  • Veggie Sausage (or an Italian sausage of choice)
  • White beans
  • Cannabis olive oil*
  • Toasted Italian bread

Quarter onion, peel garlic, and place all ingredients into a large stockpot, bring to a boil and reduce to simmer for 45 minutes, strain with a fine sieve.

Return broth to pot and bring to a boil with beans. Sear sausages on all sides and chop roughly, save to add at the end.

Add kale after 5 minutes. After 8 minutes, beans should be tender and kale well wilted and soft, even the stems. Serve hot in a large bowl, add some of the sausage, garnish with toast rubbed with garlic for dipping, drizzled in cannabis olive oil* and grate more fresh cheese and pepper generously on top. If you want more spice add red pepper flakes, but not too much, it’s a delicately flavored broth.

*To make cannabis olive oil:

Decarboxylate starting material for 20 minutes at 225 degrees, 10 for hash and wax, in a sealed container. Add ½ c olive oil to a mason jar with cannabis and seal. Heat in water bath for 1 hour, strain and funnel into a clean bottle.

You can sub in pasta or tortellini for any of the above ingredients, or even just use all four. Even with vegetarian sausage, this combination with kale and beans makes it a filling, hearty meal that is fuel for a long evening of whatever you do on cold winters nights, from Hygge to Hamilton tickets.

Floridians Worried About Governor Leaking Health Info

Published

In a shocking surprise…medical marijuana patients, including veterans, may have had their information leaked thanks to the Governor.

Florida voters have overwhelmingly approved of marijuana use in the sunshine state.  In the first election for medical marijuana, over 60% of citizens voted yes. Governor DeSantis said too bad. In the second vote, the approve vote was 71% and the Governor said the public didn’t understand and he slow rolled it out. Now he is working on trying to block a third vote for recreational. But the latest action has left citizens stunned, now Floridans worried about governor leaking health info for an email campaign.

RELATED: Study Reinforces Marijuana’s Power To Treat PTSD

Science, the American Medical Association and the federal Health and Human Services department all agree cannabis can benefit patients with a variety of ailments. Medical marijuana is recognized as a treatment for  PTSD, chronic pain, cancer and more. More research will unlock additional information about the plant, but it is a good start and is one of the basis for rescheduling. HIPAA is law passed in 1996 aimed to alter the transfer of healthcare information, stipulated the guidelines by which personally identifiable information maintained by the healthcare and healthcare insurance industries should be protected from fraud and theft.  Somewhere it slipped in Florida.

Florida’s Department of Health recently emailed nearly 700,000 medical marijuana patients, praising Republican Governor Ron DeSantis. The email promoted achievements of the governor and how it helps them. This is despite is overwhelming opposition not to just  recreational cannabis use and legalization, but also the original law which allowed them be prescribed medical marijuana.

The email also praised a cancer research program promoted by first lady Casey DeSantis, listed health issues like HIV, hepatitis and syphilis that are in the spending plan and gave a message from Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo that he and DeSantis are “advancing public health and personal responsibility in Florida.”

Medical marijuana patients and advocates say the DeSantis administration violated their privacy by using the patient list to promote policy.

“That is revolting. That is really such a misuse of power and information,” said state Rep. Kelly Skidmore, the ranking Democrat on the House Health Policy Committee.

The Department of Health said it didn’t single out medical marijuana patients, but rather sent the budget statement to everyone in its email databases apparently to promote the Governor and First Lady.
