Delaware lawmakers expected to OK adult-use marijuana but …

The Delaware state Senate is expected to vote in favor of two adult-use marijuana legalization bills on Tuesday.

An affirmative vote for recreational cannabis would set up another potential showdown with Gov. John Carney, according to the Delaware News Journal.

The governor, a Democrat, is an avowed legalization opponent whose veto blocked adult-use legalization last year.

Earlier this month, two separate bills passed the state House of Representatives.

The measures would legalize recreational marijuana for adults 21 and older and set up a regulated industry in the nation’s second-smallest state:

House Bill 1 ends criminal penalties for adults 21 and older possessing an ounce or less of marijuana. HB 2, which requires a three-fifths supermajority in order to become law, sets up a regulatory framework similar to those seen in other states.

Localities would be allowed to ban commercial cannabis activity.

US cannabis business licenses down 6% in first quarter of 2024

The number of active U.S. cannabis business licenses continued to shrink in early 2024, according to CRB Monitor, a marijuana intelligence firm that tracks and monitors licenses in the regulated industry.

Total active licenses – including those in regulated medical and recreational marijuana markets – fell 6% from the fourth quarter of 2023 and by 10% from the first quarter of last year.

The latest licensing numbers mark the fifth consecutive quarter of declines; the number of business permits began shrinking in 2022.

License totals declined on a year-over-year basis for the first time in 2023, when the number of active permits fell 4% compared to 2022 numbers.

The licensing declines come after years of nearly double-digit growth in the rapidly expanding marijuana

MedMen receiver sets date to meet with creditors after cannabis MSO’s bankruptcy filing

Creditors of cannabis operator MedMen Enterprises will meet in a few weeks as investors seek repayment for hundreds of millions of dollars in outstanding debt.

The cash-strapped company entered bankruptcy proceedings in Canada on Friday and placed its California retail assets in receivership, the first steps to unwind the business and sell off assets in liquidation.

The developments usher in the end of the company’s days as a marijuana multistate operator and cement perhaps the most precipitous downfall in the marijuana industry to date.

German cannabis imports rise to 34.6 tons as cultivators eye end of quota system

Germany imported a record amount of cannabis for medical and scientific use in 2023, as international businesses looked for sales opportunities in Europe’s largest federally regulated medical marijuana market.

In 2023, Germany imported 31,398 kilograms (34.6 tons) of cannabis products, according to the newest data from the country’s Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM).

That’s a 26.2% increase over the 24,876 kilograms imported the previous year.

In previous years, Germany imported:

24,876 kilograms (27.4 tons) of cannabis in 2022, up 19.8% over 2021. 20,771 kilograms (22.9 tons) in 2021, a 77% surge over the previous year. 11,746 kilograms (12,8 tons) in 2020, 46% more than in 2019. 8,057 kilograms (8.9 tons) in 2019, which was 80% more than 2018’s total
